How Massage Therapy Helps With The Various Systems Of The Body

Massage therapy can be beneficial and enhance health for so many systems of the body. The lymphatic system carries cellular waste away from the tissues so when doing massage it helps to stimulate the movement of the lymph so the massage ends up being detoxifying.

The other system of the body massage helps with is the respiratory system. Being massaged is quite relaxing and when the body is relaxed that results in slower, deeper more synchronized breathing which oxygenates the tissues more thoroughly. When the tissues are oxygenated more fully that leads to vitality, rejuvenation and optimal health.

The next system of the body that massage benefits is the skeletal system. When the muscles are tight and out of balance the tissues start to constrict movement patterns. This in turn causes the skeletal system including the spine to have unfunctional movement patterns. These unhealthy movement patterns can lead to injury and chronic pain. By massaging tightness and constriction out this can then lead to less constriction and structural alignment.

Another system that massaging can help with is the reproductive system. When there is constriction and tightness that can impede the normal flow of hormones. Being stressed out can also impact fertility and close up the flow of blood and lymphatic tissue which can lead to infertility. When you go to a massage therapist they help with circulation and helping hormones and tissues soften which eases tightness and constriction which can aid in reproductive health.

The endocrine system is also aided by regular massage. This helps to aid in the thyroid functional at an optimal level. When the thyroid is not working properly that can lead to weight gain, exhaustion and feeling lethargic all the time. Often people turn to medication to regulate their endocrine system but getting regular massage can regulate thyroid levels so that they can distribute the proper amount of hormones.

The nervous system is greatly affected by this kind of deep muscle therapy. When the central nervous system is on a high state of alert that can lead to abnormal levels of cortsisol and other stress hormones which can lead to insomnia, ulcers, heart conditions and other emotional and physical conditions. When the central nervous system is relieved by deep tissue strokes this can be very calming and lead to a deeper sense of calm and well-being. Being more at peace can then help the reproductive, lymphatic, respiratory and digestive system.

Day Spa Massage Services

A day spa usually offers several types of services to its customers according to their needs and preferences. Many of the services that are offered by these establishments are focused on improving the beauty and relaxed state of the customer. There are many different ways to achieve beauty and relaxation, but the most effective is being in a relaxed and comfortable state of mind. To achieve this, the customer can initially have a massage done before anything else. There are different types of massages around the world that can work wonders and the more popular and effective ones are usually available in the facility.

One of the more popular kinds of massage therapy that can be offered in a day spa is the Swedish massage. This kind involves longer and smoother strokes of the hands with the use of either a kind of oil or lotion. The lubricant is necessary to prevent friction, making the strokes smoother and less uncomfortable. The therapist will also use a kneading and circular motion to promote the wellbeing and relaxation of the individual. Basically, it is a gentle and soothing therapy that can invoke a sense of calm and relaxation in the individual. Many people prefer this relaxing massage over others because they can sleep and have the rest that they crave. In many cases, the oil or lotion that is used by the therapist may be aromatherapy to help the person be more relaxed and stress free for the duration of the service.

Another popular form of this service is the hot stone massage. This type involves the use of several smooth and flat stones that are heated to the correct temperature and then placed in strategic places over the person's body. These warm, flat stones are expected to help loosen tight and stressed muscles as well as help to even out the centers of energy of the body. The day spa therapists will combine another form of massage with the application of the hot stones in order to achieve the best possible results for the customer. The stones can also be moved around as well as held in the hand of the therapist and used during the actual massage for better results. Many customers find the heat from the stones comforting and very relaxing.

Deep tissue massage is focused on penetrating through the body to reach the affected muscles and tissues of the customer. To do this, the therapist utilizes shorter movements and even against-the-grain strokes for friction therapy. This particular massage is effective for individuals who suffer from chronic pain, constantly tight muscles, or may be recovering from injuries as well as problems with one's posture.

Stress Relief With Massage Therapy

How can massage therapy relieve your stress?

Getting treated with massage therapy means that you will have your muscles cared for in a manner conducive to improving the blood flow in your muscles, and secondarily the tissues that connect to your muscles. But how does this help reduce your stress? Most people are aware that we 'carry stress' in our muscles, and so it only makes sense that a massage of your muscles would help to reduce your stress. But what is going on when this happens? To answer this, let's take a look at the stress response, and what it does to your body.

When you experience stress, various reactions take place to raise your heart rate and blood pressure, tightening your muscles while at the same time decreasing brain activity in other areas (like your stomach) to conserve energy. Your body reacting in this way is referred to as the 'fight or flight response', a necessary physiological evolution to enable us to flee or fight predators. Although this is rarely needed in our day and age, the response mechanism still exists in us and has definite effects on us, especially with chronic stress. Chronic stress refers to a state where the 'fight or flight response' is virtually continuous, causing widespread detrimental effects on our bodies, e.g. heart issues. Luckily, massage therapy can help reduce stress, and thus limit the effect that chronic stress can have.

What does massage therapy do that relieves stress?

Massage therapy can help reduce your stress from a variety of angles. Firstly, the increased circulation to your sore muscles and tissues helps them resolve the tension and helps your body eliminate the toxins that have built up there. Secondly, massage therapy encourages your brain to release endorphins such as serotonin and dopamine, which help tremendously when it comes to stress relief. Furthermore, massage therapy simply helps take your mind off of your daily worries and gives you an opportunity to encourage good feelings instead.

Overall, your visit to a massage therapist will obviously help your muscles, but will also have a profound effect on the organs and systems in your body affected by stress. These organs include your heart, lungs, liver, kidneys, immune system, and digestive system, for example. It is recommended, especially if you have a high-stress job or lifestyle, to visit a massage therapist on a weekly or semi-weekly basis to help keep your stress levels down.
