Top 10 Reasons People Seek Massage Therapy

Most of us are aware that therapeutic massage feels amazing; but massage also provides relief to a multitude of specific health concerns. Therapeutic massage has been proven beneficial in reducing muscular pain and tension; relieving lower back pain; lessening depression; giving K.O.'s to sleep disorders, lowering high blood pressure, increasing flexibility, and much more!

Experts believe that 90% of stress accounts for 80-90% of illnesses and disease. As massage is a great stress-reliever, you can see that we can avoid a lot of current, stress-related illnesses via massage therapy.

As mentioned above, there are several reasons why people seek massage. Below are the top ten reasons why most people seek massage:

1. Massage feels great!

Massage can be a wonderful experience for deep relaxation. Post massage leaves your body and mind feeling at amazing ease.

2. Pain Relief

Massage provides significant reduction in back pain, (including lower back pain), migraine headaches, neck aches, shoulder pain, joint pain, overused or sore muscles, arthritis, Fibromyalgia, and muscle injuries. A regular massage loosens all this unnecessary tension!

3. Stress!

That overworked, overwhelmed, spaced-out feeling. Massage provides deep relaxation lessening your muscle tension and lowering your blood pressure (by reducing heart and pulse rates). Massage increases your mental clarity, heightens mental alertness, and revitalizes your mind. Massage also increases academic performance and ability to focus on calculations.

4. Combating age

Massage therapy and bodywork improves immune system functioning while relieving muscle aches and stiffness. Massage also enhances tissue elasticity and joint flexibility; improves blood and lymph circulation; and promotes healthy vibrant skin.

5. Calming Emotions

You'd be surprised at the number of people who receive regular massage treatments as an alternative to 'dealing' with depression. . Massage therapy increases self-esteem, improves your mood, decreases depression, reduces anxiety, and quiets insomnia. Massage also can ease PMS symptoms.

6. Accelerated Healing

Massage therapy speeds healing of muscles, tissues, and skin. Thus sports massage is used and great for post-workouts, post-surgery, and muscle soreness in general.

7. Increased Flexibility/Mobility

Massage therapy is perfect for people who workout, are physically fit, those who are athletes, elderly, and even pre/post surgery. Massage is wonderful for improving motor skills. Massage therapy also maintains posture in the skeletal system.

8. Removing built up toxins

Massage flushes away waste products from your muscles, tissues, and skin more easily. This helps digestive disorders (such as spastic colon, constipation and intestinal gas).

9. Improving and Maintaining Skin Tone

Massage therapy stimulates skin gland production, leaving clear, healthy skin. Massage to the skin also helps to reduce superficial scar tissue, improving skin condition(s).

10. Better overall health investment, maintenance of optimal health

In summary:

Regular massage will make you look and feel years younger! Massage therapy is so much more than a luxurious way to relax. It is a wise investment in your health and being. Massage certainly should be regarded as proof to your dedication towards maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

Take a mini vacation for an hour or two!

The Benefits of Couples Massage

Have you ever thought about getting a massage with your significant other? If you haven't, you should definitely consider the idea. Couple's massages are very popular right now and offered at different spas. Receiving a relaxing massage while having your partner by your side can be a wonderful experience that you will never forget about. Here are some of the benefits of couple's massages that you should know about.

Save Money

One of the greatest benefits of getting a massage with your significant other is that you will save some money. Many spas offer discounts to couples who book their massages together. For instance, if the typical cost of a one-hour massage is $70, you may only have to pay $110 to get a massage with your partner. It definitely is a wise idea to book this spa treatment together.

Bonding

Getting a massage together will give the two of you a chance to bond and get closer. There is nothing more romantic than talking to your loved one while receiving a relaxing massage. As a professional is giving you a massage, you can catch up with your partner and ask how he has been. This is especially beneficial for couples who work long hours and do not always get to see each other.

Ease Nerves

If you have not gotten a massage before, you might feel a little nervous. The idea of taking off your clothes and being touched by a complete stranger can make anyone uneasy. If you have your significant other by your side, you will not feel so nervous. Having him right next to you will make you feel a lot more comfortable. If you feel a little nervous before the massage, talk to your partner about it.

Share in Relaxation

The only thing more relaxing and pleasing than getting a massage is sharing it with someone you love. You can spread the relaxation with your significant other and feel very good about it. You will be happy knowing that the massage will help ease his tension and make him feel less stressed out.

Romance

Getting a massage with your partner can be very romantic, especially if you are on a weekend getaway. After the two of you get done with a massage, you can go back to your hotel room and rekindle your romance. There are some spas that offer extras during a massage including chocolate, wine and roses, which can make the atmosphere even more romantic. Make sure to take advantage of these extras.

As you can see, it is completely worth it to get a massage with your partner. During the massage, you can relax and bond with one another. Do not wait any longer to experience these great benefits and book your couples massage today. At the end of the session, you will feel like a million bucks and feel closer to your significant other. Whether you book a massage on vacation or at a spa a few minutes away from your home, you will enjoy yourself.

Massage Therapy for Improving Joint Mobility

Being more mobile is certainly the number one way to improve your joint mobility, and so you should be exercising regularly, including engaging in activities such as walking and even more challenging stretching and strengthening exercise such as yoga. Unfortunately, sometimes your joint issues are accompanied by pain and getting active can be difficult. Or you may not know where to begin with activities! Either way, a Registered Massage Therapist can help you improve your joint mobility, and can even suggest the right exercises to get you moving again.

Sports injury is a common reason for limited joint mobility, and if you suspect this is the cause of your condition, be sure to have the proper tests done to rule out broken bones or anything more serious. When your injury is limited to your muscle tissue, massage can help a great deal by improving the blood flow to your muscles around your joints and encouraging the release of endorphins to help you feel better.

There are actually a number of issues that can affect your ability to move. One of the most common is arthritis, which is an inflammation of your joints. Osteoarthritis is a natural degeneration of the cartilage in your joints, while rheumatoid arthritis is an immune disorder that, over time, also causes damage to the cartilage in your joints. Once this cartilage is damaged, it becomes harder for your joints to be as mobile. Massage therapy can help with arthritis by relaxing the muscles around your joints, improving blood flow to your joints, decreasing pain and improving their mobility as well.

Diabetes can slow down your circulation and thicken the connective tissue around your joints, making it difficult to get the blood supply needed for proper joint mobility. This is one reason why diet and exercise are so important for diabetics, because clean eating and adequate exercise help keep your blood sugar levels balanced. Balanced blood sugar levels help ensure the health of the blood vessels in your joints, improving their mobility. Likewise, massage therapy can help to improve circulation to these blood vessels, and can also decrease the thickening of connective tissue around your joints.

Because of the muscle pain, muscle spasms and muscle tension associated with fibromyalgia, if you suffer from this condition you may also experience physical symptoms such as decreased joint mobility. Massage therapy can help reduce your pain and muscle tension, and get you more mobile. Likewise, massage is great if you're suffering from lupus, a painful auto-immune disease that can affect your joints among many other possible areas of your health. If you do suffer from lupus, however, avoid seeking massage during flare-ups.

Be sure to disclose as much information about your health to your Registered Massage Therapist, taking the time to ask questions throughout your treatment as well. The more informed the therapist is about you, and the more you're informed about your treatment, the sooner you can get treated properly, and feel better!

"Best Of The Road" Review Of 36 Oaks

Thirty-six Oaks Spa may take you a little while to find, but believe me, it's worth seeking out. It's not in a conventional location; it's in a house on a few acres down a country road. You'll be greeted warmly (and inpretentiously) with some citrus iced tea. Do take some time to stroll the grounds and enjoy Linda's flowers and garden. The services here are first rate and your needs and wishes are honored. The service is friendly yet very professional. I had an expert massage, exfoilation, and facial. It's called the serenity package and it was heavenly. I felt so much better when it was over that I was surprised when I glanced in a mirror and I still looked the same. What came next was gourmet bread and cheese, home made chicken salad and tiramisu by the pool and waterfall. A fabulous and memorable experience. What are you waiting for? You deserve a trip to 36 Oaks.

Deep Tissue Massage Therapy

Deep tissue massage is designed to relieve severe tension in the muscle and the connective tissue or fascia. This type of massage focuses on the muscles located below the surface of the top muscles. Deep tissue massage is often recommended for individuals who experience consistent pain, are involved in heavy physical activity (such as athletes), and patients who have sustained physical injury. It is not uncommon for receivers of deep tissue massage to have their pain replaced with a new muscle ache for a day or two.

This kind of therapeutic massage is mostly recommended by a lot of doctors as a treatment option. This is a particular kind of massage therapy that focuses on the deep layers of muscle and physical outlook. By means of finger pressure and slow, firm strokes, deep tissue massage is used to treat multiple physical illnesses.

Decreases Chronic Pain

Deep tissue massage increases the blood circulation in our body. In this matter, it lessens the possibility of inflammation that causes pain. This type of massage can also help improve muscle tension that is usually a side effect of chronic pain by way of releasing the tissues which are tightly clustered. The University of Maryland Medical Center reports that deep tissue massage is more effective and inexpensive for relieving chronic pain than any other conventional medical therapies.

Helps Regulate Blood Pressure

People who encountered this type of massage have noticed that their systolic pressure fell down by an average of 10.4 mm Hg and their diastolic pressure fell down to an average 5.3 mm Hg, according to a study made by the University of Maryland Medical Center. Deep tissue massage can help improve the production of our body's serotonin, the hormone which aids in promoting happiness and positive outlooks in life and also it helps in decreasing stress and tension which can have an advantageous effect on blood pressure.

Splits Up Scar Tissue

Deep tissue massage therapy can help split up and in the long run, removes scar tissue in the body. This is done by improving lymphatic circulation and drainage to improve flexibility and range of motion in the affected area. Scar tissue is connected with constant pain and stiffness most of the time, and deep massage therapy can eliminate these symptoms. Also, deep massage therapy is highly recommended for people who are getting better from surgery.

Naturalizes Injured Muscles

Deep tissue massage can be an effective treatment for incapacitated muscles because it facilitates the movement of toxins from the muscles and helps stretch tight or twisted muscle mass. Deep tissue massage also helps in promoting healing. Because massage also helps relax muscles, it can moderate the pain caused by injuries, too. Deep tissue massage is commonly used to naturalize sports injuries.

Relieves Stress

Deep tissue massage can be a relief for people who undergo from chronic stress, and all of its numerous, probable side-effects like severe headaches, unbending shoulders and constricted muscles. During the session, you can let it all go and give in to the healing. Whenever it is transformed and strengthened, you will be able to face your challenges more equitably.

Benefits of Facials Extend Beyond Spa Appointments

Just the mention of the word facial conjures up images of pampered treatments at a spa that leave the recipient calm, relaxed, and stress-free. While this is more than reason enough for many women to visit a spa, there are numerous health benefits of facials as well. No longer just an option for the wealthy, facials have become much more affordable and beneficial for skin, with many first-timers to spas maturing into steady clients who later cannot imaging living their lives without facial appointments.

Among the many types of facials, there seems to be something for every member of the family: classic women's versions, men's facials, and facials specialized for teens. Each one targets a specific type of skin, and offers the most customized treatment for maintenance, prevention, as well as addressing problem skin areas. While the various facials are intended for different clients, they all offer one thing in common in their results: healthier skin. In much the same way a woman's facial can address sensitivity, fine lines, and signs of aging, a man's facial eases irritation, and provides a deep cleansing - with both resulting in healthy, radiant skin. Not to be outdone, teen facials also offer enhancements in appearance by soothing redness and helping to prevent breakout-prone incidents.

Similar to getting a massage, a facial offers layers of benefits, not only outward, but also beneath the surface. The overall relaxation and relief of stress is immediately apparent after both a massage or facial; however, added benefits beneath the skin evidence muscles that are no longer tight, and pores that are no longer clogged. These in-common benefits are often the reason many spas offer combinations of both services - so that clients can receive the maximum benefits of both options, and leave with more mobility and flexibility in their steps and skin.

In times past, both massages and facials were considered commonplace events for the well off, and luxuries for nine-to-fivers. Today, many medical professionals extol the virtues of both, with chiropractors encouraging massage as often as dermatologists encourage facials. In fact, regular spa treatments often work hand-in-hand with physician-dictated courses of treatment, and serve to enhance overall health among patients. It's this type of win-win situation that has spas growing in clientele, with an increase in facial requests. When considered a medical benefit, most people would agree facials are the kind of medicine few people would refuse to take.

Is Massage Safe During Pregnancy?

Massage during pregnancy is usually safe when administered by a trained therapist. Your therapist will have you fill out a health information form to make sure that she is aware of any health concerns. There are some precautions that therapists take with pregnant women, for instance there are pressure points which can cause contractions that your therapist will avoid if you are pregnant. Also, we avoid deep abdominal pressure during pregnancy. If you have any doubts about receiving a massage simply check with your doctor or midwife at your next prenatal appointment.

Generally, you should not receive massage if you currently have:

  • Fever
  • Vomiting
  • Heavy discharge or bleeding
  • Deep vein thrombosis
  • Threatened Miscarriage

Ask you doctor or midwife before receiving a massage if you have:

  • Preeclampsia
  • Incompetent Cervix
  • Preterm Labor
  • High Risk Pregnancy

Okay, so if massage is safe for you and you schedule your appointment what happens in the session? What do you do about your big belly?

Some massage therapists have wonderful special body cushions or tables that allow you to rest face down without putting pressure on your abdomen. If your therapist does not have this type of cushion she will have you lie on your side, draped under sheets and blankets for the massage. You will supported with pillows to ensure your comfort. Generally the therapist will perform a full body massage treatment for an hour long appointment unless you request otherwise. The therapist will focus on helping you relax and bringing relief from any discomfort or pain you may have been experiencing prior to your massage.

Finding a therapist that's right for you can take some time. Here are some questions you can ask when you are looking for a massage therapist:

  • Are you Nationally Certified?
  • Are you a member of a professional organization?
  • Where did you go to school? How many hours was your program?
  • Do you give pregnancy massages?
  • Did you receive training in pregnancy massage?
  • Do you require a doctor's permission before performing pregnancy massage?

Then go and enjoy your massage and all the benefits of relaxation and pain relief that it brings you.

Day Spa Massage Services

A day spa usually offers several types of services to its customers according to their needs and preferences. Many of the services that are offered by these establishments are focused on improving the beauty and relaxed state of the customer. There are many different ways to achieve beauty and relaxation, but the most effective is being in a relaxed and comfortable state of mind. To achieve this, the customer can initially have a massage done before anything else. There are different types of massages around the world that can work wonders and the more popular and effective ones are usually available in the facility.

One of the more popular kinds of massage therapy that can be offered in a day spa is the Swedish massage. This kind involves longer and smoother strokes of the hands with the use of either a kind of oil or lotion. The lubricant is necessary to prevent friction, making the strokes smoother and less uncomfortable. The therapist will also use a kneading and circular motion to promote the wellbeing and relaxation of the individual. Basically, it is a gentle and soothing therapy that can invoke a sense of calm and relaxation in the individual. Many people prefer this relaxing massage over others because they can sleep and have the rest that they crave. In many cases, the oil or lotion that is used by the therapist may be aromatherapy to help the person be more relaxed and stress free for the duration of the service.

Another popular form of this service is the hot stone massage. This type involves the use of several smooth and flat stones that are heated to the correct temperature and then placed in strategic places over the person's body. These warm, flat stones are expected to help loosen tight and stressed muscles as well as help to even out the centers of energy of the body. The day spa therapists will combine another form of massage with the application of the hot stones in order to achieve the best possible results for the customer. The stones can also be moved around as well as held in the hand of the therapist and used during the actual massage for better results. Many customers find the heat from the stones comforting and very relaxing.

Shiatsu is the type of therapy that utilizes the fingers of the masseuse to improve the blood flow of the customer. Firm but relaxing pressure is used on pressure points all over the body. There is no need to use any form of lubricant for this kind of therapy.

Deep tissue massage is focused on penetrating through the body to reach the affected muscles and tissues of the customer. To do this, the therapist utilizes shorter movements and even against-the-grain strokes for friction therapy. This particular massage is effective for individuals who suffer from chronic pain, constantly tight muscles, or may be recovering from injuries as well as problems with one's posture.

Hot Stone Massage - What It Is And How It Works

Hot stone massage is perhaps one of the fastest growing techniques being used for massage therapy world wide. Even though it is relatively new, it is growing in popularity very quickly. The healing powers of this new massage make it one of the most desirable therapies. This type of massage was first developed in Sweden and it is just like it sounds. Hot stones are used with the more traditional massage to help people relive stress as well as aching tight muscles.

The use of the hot stones is quite different then the usual massage technique. A therapeutic body massage is done by using a gentle touch that slowly works the kinks out of your muscles. You may be surprised to find out that in some cases the massage therapist may even massage you without even touching you. That is where they come into play. The only time the therapist may have to touch you is to reposition the stones to ensure that you are getting the full benefits and that they are where they need to be.

One thing about the hot stones is that there is no pain involved at all, where as regular massage may hurt as the muscles are being working to loosen them up. The kneading action of traditional massage can sometimes be painful so, this is a great alternative.

The type of stone massage can vary depending on the therapist and the patient. The therapist will evaluate the patient's needs and tailor the therapy as needed. Basalt stones are the stones that are used as they can keep the heat in them for the length of the massage. These stones are usually heated up to 120 degrees before they are used.

Once the stones have been heated they are then placed strategically on the parts of the body that need to benefit the most. Usually body parts such as the arms and legs will require the lighter stones where as the heavier stones will be placed on the torso. The ones that are placed on the torso are usually 3 to 5 pound stones as they can penetrate the heat better to the thicker muscles.

The therapist will then take each stone and work it into the muscles by rubbing it where the problem areas are. Now keep in mind that the hot stone therapy does not require the massaging of the stones. You can simply place the stones in the areas of need and let the heat do the rest of the work.

If you suffer with back problems or stiff muscles then this may be just the thing for you. Talk with a massage therapist and see if a hot stone massage is a good option for you and your body.

To learn more about the benefits of a hot stone massage visit http://www.full-body-massage-therapy.com , a popular website devoted to massage techniques that can relieve stress and loosen muscles. You'll find out about the many benefits of massage therapy, and also get information on picking out a qualified massage therapist.

Take Charge - Massage And A Self-Actualized You

Lots of people enjoy a massage and many see it as a gift to themselves - sort of a reward for dealing with day-to-day life and the craziness of work, family, traffic, school and other sources of stress.

Who's not up for relaxing in a beautiful, calm studio, with low lighting, pretty music, wonderful aromas and strong, expert hands massaging away the cares of the day?

In the workplace, employees that get a massage regularly tend to have increased productivity and ability to focus and are, as a group, not so stressed as coworkers who don't take advantage of the mental and physical health enhancements that accompany massage. But, often we tend to look for an excuse, or feel like we need a reason to get a massage. For some, it takes a significant event to push them out of thinking about it, into actually picking up the phone and scheduling their massage.

If you find yourself searching for justification or an excuse to get a massage, here's an idea: Knowing how good massage is at relieving stress after an event, why not join that group of people who get a massage BEFORE a potentially high stress event? Individuals taking this proactive approach experience a measurable decrease in anxiety during and immediately after the stressful situation or event, along with reported moderation's in heart and breathing rates.

It's also well documented that massage substantially alters aspects of blood chemistry for the better.
Why not take a self-actualizing step, and enjoy that kind of relief as part of your preparation going into that day of the big business meeting or exam?

Walking into the situation, inwardly you know your muscles and tissues are less bound by up tension and toxins.

Stepping up to the plate, you know you're on top of your game since those by-products of stress can tend to make you sluggish, if not flat-out fatigued. You're more aware, more alert and your immune system is stronger. You're ahead of the game, just by taking the time for your massage BEFORE the event gets underway.

There are always good reasons to decide to make the call or the click to schedule your full body massage.

Now you have another reason - a new 'take charge' idea that extends to a more relaxed, self-actualized and powerful you.

You not only deserve the indulgence of a massage, it makes perfect sense.

The Effects of Massage on the Human Body

Most of us cannot deny that there is nothing better than taking timeout from our stressful day to day lives and having some "me" time. A perfect way to unwind and give you that very much needed "me" time, is to book an appointment with a well trusted and qualified massage therapist. A full body massage isn't just about winding down and relaxing, it really can have multiple benefits to your general health too. There has been many medical studies based around the full body massage procedure, and these studies have proven some of the positive effects that may come from having a full body massage.

A full body massage is a hands-on manipulation of the skin, muscle and joints. It's a therapeutic stroking and kneading of your body's muscles, which is done to relax muscle spasm, relieve all of that built up tension, help improve your body's circulation, and help to rid all of those built up toxins and wastes from your body.

In today's fast moving world that we all live in, it can become ever so easy to simply forget about our health and well being, but if you can afford to take timeout and keep having a full body massage on a regular basis, this really is an excellent way to fight off tensions and keep you feeling on top of the world.

Some of us are guilty of only ever taking this sort of timeout when it is a special occasion such as a birthday or anniversary, which is still pleasant for you and leaves you feeling ever so relaxed, but if you can book yourself a course of massage treatments...well, this is where you will gain the maximum benefits which the full body massage procedure has to offer.

Did you know that stress and tension is one of the main causes of diseases and illnesses in people today? Quite shocking news really when you think of how stressful even your daily commute to work can be. It really is imperative to relieve all of this built up stress and tension if you wish to lead a long and healthy life.

The benefits from simply having a body massage truly seem to be endless, and depending on your current lifestyle and general health, the benefits will be different for you, than they will be for let's say your next door neighbour. Having a body massage can improve your body's blood circulation, which most of us know is vital for a healthy body. A lot of people make the mistake of thinking it will only benefit the external parts of their body, but this isn't the case at all. A body massage will also help to keep all of your internal organs healthy and keep them all working efficiently.

Having a body massage on a regular basis will help to fight depression, blood pressure, back problems, diabetes and even infertility. After reading this, it now seems body massage is the best thing going for you and your health, but it is not suitable for everyone and you must keep this in mind. If you suffer from heart problems, cancer, or skin problems, then you really should discuss this with your doctor before booking yourself in for your very first massage session.

You really can improve your well being and live a much healthier life by having a regular body massage. So stop putting off that all important "me" time and get yourself booked in for your first session.

Here's to a much healthier life for you and me!

Spa Gift Certificates Are Not Just for Christmas

When most people think of spa gift certificates, they think of the typical occasions: Christmas, Birthdays, and Valentine's Day. However, there are many more occasions where the gift of relaxation and pampering would be appreciated.

  1. Baby Showers - How many blankets can one mother use? What she really needs is an hour or so to herself. Remember, after the baby is born, sleep is a rarity. Her eyes will light up when she gets it and when she redeems it.

  2. Bridal Showers - Being a bride is expensive and stressful. Since most brides consider a fresh manicure and pedicure a wedding necessity, why not a gift certificate for her shower? Of course, she would also appreciate a facial or a massage as well. The sky is the limit when it comes to the bride.

  3. Bridal Party Gifts - As a bridesmaid or groomsman, how many pieces of jewelry or engraved flasks can you use? Why not give your bridal party the gift of relaxation? After all, they are probably under nearly as much stress as the happy couple.

  4. Sweet Sixteen or Bar / Bat Mitzvah - These days teens are much more sophisticated and they are very conscious of their appearance. A teen facial gift certificate will help them learn how to care for their skin, prevent skin damage and premature aging as well as keeping acne and blackheads at bay. And for the young women, a certificate for a makeup application / lesson will help ensure her application is age appropriate. After all, she may not listen to a parent, but she might listen to a professional.

  5. Mothers' Day - Whether she is your mom or the mother of your kids, she works hard and deserves to be pampered. Enough of the same old flowers. Give the moms in your life the gift of someone else taking care of her for a change.

  6. Fathers' Day - Hey, don't forget about Dad! Mother's tend to get treated more than fathers, but Dads work hard and need a break as well. Treating the Dad in your life to a massage will show him that you know how hard he works and that he is appreciated.

  7. Graduation - Graduates have worked hard to get their diploma and are either moving on to the next educational level or looking for a job. Either way, the graduates in your life could use relaxation, a manicure, or a make-up session to show them at their best as they prepare for the future.

  8. Wedding Anniversaries - Couples who are celebrating momentous anniversaries would enjoy a couple's massage. Many spas will treat these couples with a little extra if they know why the certificate was purchased; perhaps a glass of champagne and some chocolates after their services would be in order.

  9. Retirement - After working the past 40 plus years, don't you think a luxurious spa treatment would be in order? Now that the retiree has nothing but time, treating him or her to a massage or facial might be just what is needed to get into permanent vacation mode.

  10. Boss' Day or Administrative Assistant's Day - Flowers, last year; lunch, the year before; candy, year before that. Let that spa gift certificate be your go to gift this year and for years to come. With multiple services available, you can give a different gift each year and it will take you awhile to run out!

I hope these ideas get you thinking. A spa gift certificate is easy, a great value, and is always welcome. Remember, it is a gift that will keep you in their thoughts for a long time. Keep in mind that you can often purchase these without leaving your home. Most spas offer instant gift certificates on their websites so you can print and have it ready at your convenience.

Hot Stone Massage Explained

Hot stone massage is a popular combination of a light massage technique aided by hot stones for relaxing stiff and tension muscles all over the patient' body. Swedish massage is probably the most commonly used massage therapy for this type of therapeutic massage as it is done in a gentle and smooth manner. The most common type of stone used on the patient's body is basalt rock. The reason for this is because of its ability to retain heat for a long time unlike the other stones. These stones are usually sanitized before being used on the patient's body.

The person responsible for making this massage type popular all over the world is an Arizona massage therapist named Mary Nelson. However, this massage technique is used for many centuries ago as an alternative medicine to promote a healthy condition. La-Stone Therapy was a modified version of hot stone massaged developed by Mary Nelson.

The basalt or other types of stones used are usually placed on a preheated water container until they reach the desirable and appropriate temperature suitable for this type of therapeutic massage. An electric heating device is commonly used as it is more convenient to heat things there than any other type of heating device. Stones that are not warm enough or lost their warmth are replaced and immersed back in the water and heated again in the electric heating device.

In a hot stone massage therapy session, the process is similar with any of the conventional massage therapy where the patient is required to undress and comfortably lie down on the massage bed. However, unlike the other massage styles, hot stone massage starts its therapy by warming up the patient's body with the help of hot stones positioned on the various meridian points located all over the body. The warmth of these stones helps a lot in releasing tension and calming the body parts of the patient as a preparation for a good massage therapy. The massage therapist also uses oil or lotion as a lubricant on the patient's body for a smooth and friction-free manipulation of the various massage strokes. The therapist has the liberty of using hot stones placed on both hands as he or she massages the patient. These stones are replaced with new stones in case the heat doesn't meet the appropriate temperature required for this massage therapy method. Most of the time during a massage session, the massage therapist doesn't remove the hot stones on the patient's body key points as he or she works all over the body.

Many people are getting hooked with this type of massage therapy because of its wonderful effect on the patient's body after the massage therapy session. This type of massage therapy is suitable for individuals who prefer to relax with a lighter and gentler massage therapy. People with body pain often find this technique relieving, relaxing and energizing. It is also a good way of removing emotional and physical stress by getting your energy re-balanced for a healthier body condition.

I write for TIR Massage Stone about performing hot stone massage therapy and obtaining a proper hot stone massage kit.

What Is Hot Stone Massage And What Does It Do?

Hot stone massage is a type of massage developed using techniques found from Native American history. The Native Americans would use stones heated by fire to treat aching muscles and help them heal, as was often the case with these highly active people. Mary Nelson developed the first massage treatment to use hot stones which is called LaStone Therapy. Since this was created many other masseurs and spas have created their own versions of the treatment such as stone therapy, wild water stone therapy and other such names.

When receiving a hot stone massage, the masseur will use heated smooth stones to heat up certain muscles in the body. Whilst these stones heat up the body, the masseur will use others as extensions of their hands, rubbing them all over a person's body in different massage strokes to achieve complete relaxation. The advantage of using hot stones is that muscles are warmer and therefore more relaxed, meaning they can be worked to a higher degree without the need to press so hard during massage. Through hot stone massage a masseur can achieve the same effects as deep therapy massage if they do the massage strokes correctly.

Hot stone massage is very difficult to master, and many people find that when they go for one, they actually come out no better than they were before. To reach the right level of skill to perform a good hot stone massage a masseur needs to have been working for many years. Over these years a masseur will develop a sense for what their customers can tolerate in terms of temperature, and also learn how to effectively massage after using stones to gently heat muscles.

Some people have complained about going for a hot stone massage and being treated like an ironing board. This is not the effect that you should be feeling, and if a masseur begins to make you feel this way they need to be told, otherwise a massage could be wasted and you could in fact end up coming out feeling worse than when you went in.

In conclusion, stone massage is a type of massage developed from techniques used by the Native Americans. The fact that it has been used for so long shows that it's an effective type of massage that clearly achieves a greater level of healing and relaxation in the muscles, otherwise people would have moved onto a different form of massage that achieves better results.
