Day Spa Services

Many people prefer a day spa to a destination spa because of the convenience of short term services and treatments that just take about an hour or so to finish. Compared to the destination spas that often require the person or party to stay for a day or two to fully take advantage of the establishment, these types of places offer a range of services that are usually centered on massages, facials and other treatments that can be done in less than a half a day.

Massages and Body Treatments

There are a lot of different massages that can affect the body in the way that the individual wants. Some can actually recharge a person's exhausted body and invigorate the spirit while others calm and ease the individual to the point that he or she falls asleep. In a day spa, relaxation and energizing can be achieved in just a little over an hour. The effect can be dependent on what accompanying oils are used as well as the techniques used by the people who handle the clients.

Some body treatments can be considered as massages by many but these also serve a different purpose. Many of these are aimed at improving the client's skin. These can consist of body wraps, exfoliating rubs and many others. Different mediums are used to implement the improvement and some include salt, coffee grounds, sea weed and many others. These are usually left on the skin for some time and the individual may even experience being wrapped in plastic with the medium left on the skin for better absorption. Pedicures, manicures and foot spas are often included in the services given in day spa.

Facials and Skin Exfoliation

Both men and women go to a day spa to have facials several times in a year. Facials have different purposes but they usually improve the appearance of a person's skin. For many establishments of this genre, skin improvement does not stop in the face. Skin areas that are often exposed to the general public are usually included in the exfoliating, cleansing and moisturizing treatments. Machines that help to implement the exfoliation and dermabrasion of the skin are used for better efficacy. Waxing and hair removal are two other services that might be offered in spas that cater to those who are short with time. The treatment can be broken down into short sessions to fit into the person's schedule.

The Many Effects Of Body Wraps

Body wraps are usually consisted of seaweed, mud, herbs and even chocolate and are all very high in minerals and vitamins. Body wraps are therapeutic to a customer's skin and body because they help vasodilation and penetrate the ingredients into the skin. Many of them offer anti-aging affects, while others cleanse the skin from impurities. However, all body wraps have one thing in common: they offer relaxation to any customer receiving them.

Seaweed body wraps reduces a customer's water weight while tightening the skin. Seaweed is put all over the body and detoxifies the skin by stimulating the sweat glands and creating soft and subtle skin after the treatment.

A mud wrap is soothing to the skin and may even help certain skin irritations. It detoxifies, cleanses and even firms the entire body's skin, while unclogging the pores. It soothes and calms the customer's skin and causing them to feel relaxed and at ease.

Herb wraps are herbs blended in oil and mixed in with very hot water. Linen sheets are dipped into the mixture and then wrapped all over the customer's body, which cleanses and nourishes the body.

Chocolate is a little more modern but very a popular wrap among customers who are looking for anti-aging results. Chocolate softens and tones the skin, while releasing your endorphins so that the customer feels happy and relaxed. The cocoa in the chocolate contains glycerides that moisturizes the skin and actually plumps out the wrinkles in a person's skin.

There are many different body wraps a spa can use. A spa therapist should always have a consultation with the client to determine which wrap would be the most beneficial for their needs. Many clients may not know all the benefits for each type of body wrap so it is up to the spa therapist to inform them so that they can get the results they are looking for.

Spa Treatments For Men

We lead hectic lives - without question. Work demands, commuting, social obligations, friendships, husbands/wives, children, girlfriends/boyfriends, school, extended families, the house, the car, the neighbors, keeping up with the mail, bills, jury duty, work travel, vacation planning, emails... STRESS.

For the most part, whether you talk about men or women, we typically do whatever it takes to meet the demand... power through it... tough it out. But, there comes a time when we have to say "enough is enough". Sometimes that moment coincides with the vacation which, in America at least, is an annual event that doesn't even come close to lasting long enough. But, that's a topic for another article.

Stereotypes aside, women have a built-in mechanism for reducing their stress, and they do it with relative frequency. There's shopping (especially for shoes), the hair salon, the nail salon, facials, massage, lunch with friends, spa treatments. I'd like to point out that there is an element among these few examples that is common to each of these activities: the aspect of sensuousness. It's the thing that takes envelopes you and takes you completely away, even if it's only for a couple of hours.

Men have their escapes too in the form of sports, either viewing or playing, drinks with the guys, the gym, or running. Granted, some prefer more cerebral pursuits like losing themselves in a good book or enjoying a well-played game of chess. However, very few men opt for scheduling an appointment at the spa. Mind you, I'm not making a brash generalization here. There are a few guys who realize the mental and physical health benefits of spa treatments - it's just not typical... yet.

Going to a masseuse to heal a sports injury or muscle pain is justifiable, for obvious reasons, but if the objective is to have a sensual, rejuvenating, relaxing, luxurious, spirit-reviving escape... not so much. The good news is that I am starting to see new evidence that men are slowly showing interest in spa treatments as part of their overall health regime and I say Bravo to that. Equally true, they are showing more interest in grooming products, moisturizers, eye creams, cleansers and applying proper skin care techniques. Major Bravo to that, as well!!

Interestingly, I was just reading that 35% of spa goers are men and that number is expected to increase in the coming years. The point that they are starting to understand is that spas are necessary rather than luxury and should be considered therapy rather than pampering. This is not an affront to your manliness but rather an opportunity to take good care of yourself. After all, if you don't, who will?

Spas have gotten wise, too. The robes are "man sized" so you don't have to feel uncomfortable, the massage tables are long enough to accommodate your body comfortably and you won't leave smelling like a rose garden. However, you will leave feeling rested, relaxed, rejuvenated, more confident, happy... basically like a new man.

Consider the possibility of taking your girlfriend along or make it a buddy date. No matter how you slice it up, you cannot lose with a spa treatment.

Hot Stone Massage Explained

Hot stone massage is a popular combination of a light massage technique aided by hot stones for relaxing stiff and tension muscles all over the patient' body. Swedish massage is probably the most commonly used massage therapy for this type of therapeutic massage as it is done in a gentle and smooth manner. The most common type of stone used on the patient's body is basalt rock. The reason for this is because of its ability to retain heat for a long time unlike the other stones. These stones are usually sanitized before being used on the patient's body.

The person responsible for making this massage type popular all over the world is an Arizona massage therapist named Mary Nelson. However, this massage technique is used for many centuries ago as an alternative medicine to promote a healthy condition. La-Stone Therapy was a modified version of hot stone massaged developed by Mary Nelson.

The basalt or other types of stones used are usually placed on a preheated water container until they reach the desirable and appropriate temperature suitable for this type of therapeutic massage. An electric heating device is commonly used as it is more convenient to heat things there than any other type of heating device. Stones that are not warm enough or lost their warmth are replaced and immersed back in the water and heated again in the electric heating device.

In a hot stone massage therapy session, the process is similar with any of the conventional massage therapy where the patient is required to undress and comfortably lie down on the massage bed. However, unlike the other massage styles, hot stone massage starts its therapy by warming up the patient's body with the help of hot stones positioned on the various meridian points located all over the body. The warmth of these stones helps a lot in releasing tension and calming the body parts of the patient as a preparation for a good massage therapy. The massage therapist also uses oil or lotion as a lubricant on the patient's body for a smooth and friction-free manipulation of the various massage strokes. The therapist has the liberty of using hot stones placed on both hands as he or she massages the patient. These stones are replaced with new stones in case the heat doesn't meet the appropriate temperature required for this massage therapy method. Most of the time during a massage session, the massage therapist doesn't remove the hot stones on the patient's body key points as he or she works all over the body.

Many people are getting hooked with this type of massage therapy because of its wonderful effect on the patient's body after the massage therapy session. This type of massage therapy is suitable for individuals who prefer to relax with a lighter and gentler massage therapy. People with body pain often find this technique relieving, relaxing and energizing. It is also a good way of removing emotional and physical stress by getting your energy re-balanced for a healthier body condition.

The Various Benefits Of Spa Facials

Going for Spa facials can be a great experience that would help revitalize your skin while you soak in the comfort of a great spa experience. There is a variety of skin problems that these facials address. Even if there were no specific problems in your skin, would still help in making your skin look rejuvenated and beaming with youth and vigor. But not all people have flawless skin with no problems whatsoever. Some of the normal problems that these facials treat are acne, skin dryness, inflammation of pores and other regular skin ailments. Most of these Spa facials are recommended equally for women as well as for men. Sometimes teenagers that have skin problems can also benefit a lot from these Spa facials.

Most of us use soap and water to wash our face. However, soap alone is not enough to adequately cleanse the pores of our skin. Sometimes, dirt, grim and oil can accumulate deep inside and clog the pores of the skin-giving rise to a variety of skin conditions that need to be treated. Some of the damage done to the skin from exposure to the sun and the weather can also not be adequately undone using just soap and water. What is required is good Spa facials in order to effectively rectify and control the damage done to the skin.

Spa facials begin with the assessment of your skin type and the problem if any that your skin is undergoing at the moment. This initial procedure then helps the beautician decide on the treatment required for your particular skin type and skin condition. The amount of oil secreted by your skin, the size of the pores on your skin, the texture of your skin surface and the tone of your skin are determined in order to decide on the kind of Spa facials for the course of treatment.

The actual Spa facials procedure basically involves deep cleansing of the pores of the skin in order to unclog the pores as well as to exfoliate the dead cells on the top most layer of the skin. This procedure alone can greatly improve the condition of the skin. The beautician would then add moisturizing agents to make your skin soft and supple, which would also retard the aging process. A moisturized skin helps prevent the formation of wrinkles which is one of the most visible signs of aging. Therefore Spa facials not only rectify the skin conditions that you suffer from, but also enhance the natural beauty of the skin and at the same time use anti-aging processes to help the skin fight the aging process effectively.
