Why Everyone Should Get a Massage Regularly

Each year, more and more massage parlors are being established in different parts of the world. This is not really very surprising because the demand for good massage service has indeed been constantly rising for quite some time now. People are realizing just how much a good massage can help them feel more relaxed and free from the stress brought about by daily life.
But aside from the comfort and relaxation that a good massage can give, there are actually several other health benefits that we can enjoy simply by getting a massage on a regular basis. If you are one of those people who still need some convincing before you make that first appointment at the massage parlor, the following benefits might just help you make your decision.
  • Better blood circulation. The pressure of a full body massage improves the circulation of blood, allowing oxygen and other essential nutrients to reach even the remotest parts of your body. An improved circulatory system also leads to improvement in the appearance of your skin, which in turn makes you look healthier, more beautiful and younger.

  • Increased flexibility. As we get older, our joints become stiffer and less flexible, and this problem is exacerbated further if we sit in front of a desk the whole day, which is what most people do. A massage at the end of the day can ensure that your joints and muscles remain flexible.

  • Release of endorphins. Our bodies naturally produce endorphins to help relieve pain during times of injury. You can help a lot with the endorphin production simply by getting a massage, which should be very useful if you are recovering from a physical injury or even if you are simply feeling an overall ache in your body due to the stresses of your regular routine.

  • Treatment of migraines and other medical problems. Not many people realize it but a massage can actually do for you what some medications can. In other words, if you are able to get a good professional massage, you won't have to take certain medications, such as those for migraine, which may even cause side effects.
Even if you are not suffering from any pain or discomfort, it is still recommended that you get a massage on a regular basis because this is a very effective preventive measure against many health problems.

Massage - A Look At the Benefits

A professional massage can do wonders to help your aching body. While not everyone's cup of tea, it is an ancient art that has been perfected with advances in the understanding of the human body. Today's therapists are more knowledgeable than ever before and they bring that knowledge to the table in an effort to make you feel as good as possible. But these sessions aren't just about letting out some stress or feeling good in the moment. Science has shown a host of short and long-term benefits to the practice.

Condition-Specific Benefits

Many people have their first experience with professional massage as the result of a specific condition they believe could be improved with the treatment. Often, they couldn't be more right in their assumption and this first foray into the practice leads to a lifetime love affair with the art. Some of the conditions that can benefit from a session or two include lower back pain, sore and tight muscles, workout recovery, lack of flexibility, and limited circulation. Of course, this only covers the physical realm. Some believe the benefits go beyond muscles and ligaments, extending to depression, anxiety, and even the immune system.

Stress

Most people think of stress as a fluctuating thing. You have a tough morning, thus you feel a lot of "stress." This is a layman's way of thinking about it, however. In reality, chronic stress is something that builds up in the body and it never really goes away. It is there when you are working against a tight deadline just as it is when you are trying to go to sleep at night. It is there when juggling fifteen different tasks and it is there when you are relaxing on the beach. It is important to eliminate as much of it as you can and massage has been shown to help. As it dissipates, you'll begin to notice better sleep patterns, more energy, and improved concentration.

Physiological Change

The physiological and chemical changes that occur in the body due to massage cannot be overstated. Because of these changes, studies have shown that participants experience a number of benefits. Some of these include seeing arthritis sufferers complain of fewer pains than before, improved breathing in asthmatic children, and lower blood pressure for those who have searched high and low for ways to bring it down. This barely scratches the surface of the benefits massage can bring to the body, but more research is coming in all the time. Studies or no studies, however, the only way to really know is to try it yourself.

Hot Stone Massage - A Great Massage Technique

Hot Stone Massage Therapy, once thought of as a spa treatment, is becoming more and more popular in a clinical, therapeutic settings. The basics of the treatment remain the same. Lava stones are heated to a comfortable temperature and used throughout the massage to provide heat and relaxation to further loosen up tight muscles. The difference I find, lies in the techniques used. In most spa treatments I have experienced, the stones are placed on the body to heat up specific areas and then removed when the massage begins. Very rarely have I noticed the stones being used in correlation with the massage techniques themselves.

Massage Therapists are trained to use the heated stones along with massage techniques, alternating between the stone and their hands. Using the heat along with massage loosens the muscles quicker and provides a sense of fluidity in the treatment. Although hot stone massage can be beneficial all year-round, I personally enjoy it most during the cooler months.

Just like regular massage, each individual has a preferred pressure as well as temperature. Even though the stones are quickly dipped in water to cool them off, they can still be a little too hot. Make sure you communicate with your therapist if you are uncomfortable in any way. Communication is key in any treatment you are receiving. I also find that with the heat, clients can be a little more tender a day or two after. I always advise them to have a nice soak in the tub after any massage and make sure you drink lots of water, especially after a hot stone massage.

There are some contraindications to hot stone massage:

* Hot stones are not indicated in any trimester of pregnancy and especially within the first. Increasing the moms temperature will also increase the baby's and this could be dangerous to both.

* Anyone with a heart condition, increased blood pressure or heart disease. The heat increases blood pressure and can cause further damage in those with heart conditions

* Any acute injury that has indication of swelling. Heat increases swelling which in turn causes pain.

If you are unsure whether hot stone massage is right for you please check with you doctor first

A Few Interesting Facts on Hot Stone Massage Therapy

A hot stone massage is a therapy that has numerous benefits. It is a type of massage that uses a heated massage rock and a Swedish massage to heal and relax the body. Many people avail of this massage because of its many therapeutic effects. It is not only a form of relaxation but also an effective solution to aches and pains of the body. Here are some beneficial effects of this type of massage other than calming the body.

o It puts the mind in a meditative state and therefore is good for people experiencing insomnia and difficulty of sleep because of stress.
o It releases tension on the muscles. It is very good for muscles that are injured, weak and tight.
o It enhances the lymphatic system decreasing the body's susceptibility to infection.
o It has a consoling and soothing effect and has been proven to treat depression.
o It is considered as one form of pain management and recommended for people with back pains and arthritis.

People these days are so prone to stress that there is no doubt physical and mental fatigue will eventually set in. In order to relieve some of the tension from the body, you often find other ways on how to feel relaxed and a hot stone massage therapy is one of the popular choices. It is the perfect way of alleviating pain and promoting overall health of an individual.

You already know the beneficial effects it provides but sometimes you ask yourself on how many times is it really ideal to get a hot stone massage. There really is no actual limitation on how many times you should have a stone massage therapy but the average occurrence to a massage client is approximately once a month. But this number is really dependent on the person and his lifestyle. For instance, one person may engage in a job that requires him to seat on a chair for more than 8 hours. This type of job will usually bear a strain on the muscles and it is recommended to take the massage twice a month.

A two hour treatment of a hot stone massage therapy will take you in a deeper sense of relaxation. The tension and muscle spasms in your body will simply melt away as the massage rock and Swedish massage create the perfect massage atmosphere. The heat and the massage will gradually open up the energy centers of the body and will leave you feeling rejuvenated in no time.

Getting a hot stone massage therapy is good for the body. It may be a little more expensive than a regular massage but the effects can be remarkable. You cannot reverse the aging process of the body but at least you can slow it down with the proper diet, regular exercise and a massage once in awhile. So invest in a hot stone massage to boost your energy levels and live a healthier happier lifestyle.

First Massage? What to Expect

What should I expect for my first appointment?
The therapist will arrive a few minutes prior to the appointment time to ensure proper set up. You will be asked to fill out a brief health history form. The therapist will then ask general questions to establish what areas you would like to be worked on or avoided, and discuss any skin conditions/health concerns that may need to be addressed. The therapist will leave the room allowing you time to undress to your level of comfort and lay on the table.

What is Swedish massage?
Swedish Massage is a very relaxing style of bodywork. It combines an array of strokes such as rolling, gliding, kneading, and percussion to help the body improve ease tension and improve circulation and blood flow.

What is Deep Tissue massage? Will it hurt?
Deep tissue aims to relieve tension in the deeper layers of tissue in the body. It is a highly effective method for releasing chronic stress areas and "knots" due to misalignment, repetitive motions, and past lingering injuries. Contrary to popular belief, Deep Tissue does not necessarily mean you'll have to endure sharp elbows and painful manipulation. Rather, the licensed massage therapist will apply pressure and a variety of techniques to achieve the desired outcome, checking in with the client to ensure your total comfort.

What should I wear?
Undress to your level of comfort. For a full body massage, most people undress to their underwear. It is recommended for women to remove their bra to keep it out of contact with lotions, oils and creams. You will remain covered with a sheet and blanket at all times; only the area being worked on will be uncovered. *Thai massage is recommended for clients who would prefer to remain fully clothed.*

What do I do during the massage session?
It is your massage, and whatever feels natural to you is the best way to relax. Many people close their eyes and relax, while others talk; it is up to you. Do not hesitate to ask questions at any time, especially if feeling light-headed of nauseous.

Will the lotion make me break out?
All lubricants (oils, lotions and creams) are hyopallergenic. If you are sensitive to certain types of oils, lotions or aromatherapy, please let the therapist know.

How often should I get a massage?
Treatment frequency varies by client. For those seeking relaxation, a 60-minute massage every 3 weeks is beneficial. For those with acute injuries, shorter, more frequent sessions are recommended, such as 30-minutes twice a week. To treat chronic conditions, initial 60-minute weekly sessions are suggested for 3-4 weeks, and then taper down to biweekly for maintenance.

The Many Effects Of Body Wraps

Body wraps are usually consisted of seaweed, mud, herbs and even chocolate and are all very high in minerals and vitamins. Body wraps are therapeutic to a customer's skin and body because they help vasodilation and penetrate the ingredients into the skin. Many of them offer anti-aging affects, while others cleanse the skin from impurities. However, all body wraps have one thing in common: they offer relaxation to any customer receiving them.

Seaweed body wraps reduces a customer's water weight while tightening the skin. Seaweed is put all over the body and detoxifies the skin by stimulating the sweat glands and creating soft and subtle skin after the treatment.

A mud wrap is soothing to the skin and may even help certain skin irritations. It detoxifies, cleanses and even firms the entire body's skin, while unclogging the pores. It soothes and calms the customer's skin and causing them to feel relaxed and at ease.

Herb wraps are herbs blended in oil and mixed in with very hot water. Linen sheets are dipped into the mixture and then wrapped all over the customer's body, which cleanses and nourishes the body.

Chocolate is a little more modern but very a popular wrap among customers who are looking for anti-aging results. Chocolate softens and tones the skin, while releasing your endorphins so that the customer feels happy and relaxed. The cocoa in the chocolate contains glycerides that moisturizes the skin and actually plumps out the wrinkles in a person's skin.

There are many different body wraps a spa can use. A spa therapist should always have a consultation with the client to determine which wrap would be the most beneficial for their needs. Many clients may not know all the benefits for each type of body wrap so it is up to the spa therapist to inform them so that they can get the results they are looking for.

3 Brilliant Benefits of Massage Therapy

Mellow your muscles

One of the primary benefits of massage is the effect it can have on your muscles. Muscular tissues get worked hard on a daily basis, even if you don't notice it. Through constant contraction and expansion, muscles can quickly become tired, sore, or tense. Extended use can leave your muscles in a constant state of contraction, an outcome that can also be caused through stress. Tight and overworked muscles can affect your whole body, especially your posture. The same applies for underworked muscles too. Underworked muscles can lose their tone and definition, sometimes leading to physical problems. Inactive muscles can cause just as many problems as overworked muscles.

Massage therapy can be great at combatting muscle fatigue and the detrimental effects of tight, overworked muscles or poorly defined, inactive muscles. Stretching and relaxing muscles through massaging can increase their flexibility, reduce cramping, dispose of stored waste products and toxins, and improve your muscle tone.

Improve your posture

Poor posture is one of the main causes of back and neck problems. It can also cause problems in other areas of the body, such as reducing the efficiency of the respiratory system. Maintaining a good posture is essential to maintaining a healthy functioning body. Massage therapy can be a perfect aid to improve posture. As it makes the muscles much more flexible, you'll find that massaging will vastly improve your range of movement. There is a substance called synovial fluid in your joints. This fluid can become quite thick through inactivity of muscles. Massages can help the flow of synovial fluid through your joints, loosening you up and reducing the pain caused.

Boost your cardio

Cardio-vascular performance and stamina is directly related to the way blood flows through your body. Poor blood flow can lead to reduced functioning of your muscles and joints, as well as reduce the amount of oxygen reaching all areas of your body, which provides essential energy for your cells to function efficiently. Your heart has to work hard to consistently pump blood through your body, resulting in high blood pressure for those with poor cardio. Massage therapy often focuses on massaging blood towards your heart, reducing the stress placed on your essential organ and lowering your blood pressure producing healthy results. Regular massages can help you consistently maintain a lower blood pressure by loosening your joints and muscles. This ensures that your heart doesn't have to work so hard to get that vital blood to your extremities.

Spa Day

Do you have a crazy work schedule and just need a day to just relax? Consider going to a day spa for hours of pampering and complete relaxation. There are many different options for you at a day spa.

Facials come in a variety of different styles and purposes. They all come with a head and neck massage but they differ in herbs and chemicals that help your face to clear up from a break out, tighten your skin, reduce fine lines and wrinkles, and hydrate your face so it looks younger fresher and will glow. It usually lasts between a half hour and an hour and they will give you the most tender care so you can relax and feel rejuvenated upon leaving.

Having a massage at a day spa is one of the most common and popular things to get. Did you know that having a massage regularly can reduce your stress level? It can also allow you lower rates at your insurance company because it can improve your health conditions. It can help to align your bones and take the toxins and knots out of your back so you will be in a fresh optimal state of health and feel great too. Massages are extremely relaxing and enjoyable too. The nice herbal scented oils and soothing spa music accompanying the actual massage hour (or two) helps you to reach a state of calm.

Body wraps and baths are popular too. You can have your body wrapped in hydrating cloths or take a mud bath which will extract toxins and impurities out of your skin leaving it feeling refreshed and exfoliated. You will be soft and supple after you have quenched your skin with an intense treatment which in the process will help you to calm your nerves and make your stress level drop.

It is important when you have a day at the spa to hydrate your body with water so the toxins from the treatments can be flushed out. Otherwise you could get a headache and it could be counterproductive.

You will be looking new and rejuvenated all over your body by being replenished with all the vitamins and nutrients your skin needs to feel fresh and new.

A day at the spa can raise your confidence level and create a peace within yourself from dropping your stress level and enhancing your physical state. Taking care of your body is important. Part of that is being proactive about cleaning and servicing your body with a treat to the spa for promoting good health and well-being.

Local Worthy Event: The Vacaville Kid Fest is Sat Oct 6th in Downtown Vacaville at Andrews Park. FUN!

Vacaville Kid Fest was started in 1999, when an idea was born to create a "Children's Festival", a place where families could come and have a day of activities with their children at very little or no cost, and also have the opportunity to learn about many of the services and resources that were available to children and families. We adopted the theme "For the Child in all of us".

A group of City of Vacaville representatives, ranging from business owners and managers, nonprofit groups and media people were approached with the idea and met it with enthusiasm. And thus, Kid Fest was born.

The first Kid Fest Core Committee consisted of Shauna Manina, Meaghan O'Neill from Vacaville Police Dept., Linnea Dischinger from Vacaville Fire Dept., Todd Grames and Suzanne Green from Community Services Dept., and Reggie Hubbard from Housing & Redevelopment Dept. Other business people from The Reporter, Downtown Vacaville Business Improvement District, and others all committed to the vision of a day of low cost or no cost activities, free resources, and fun.

Our first event in 1999 had 1 stage and 40 booths, with everything from food, crafters and merchandise vendors, a wide range of social service and community nonprofit groups, free children's games and entertainment, bounce houses, and a very strong focus on child safety and health. From the beginning, a large component of the event has been the presence of Vacaville Fire and Police Depts., with their equipment displays, children's fire muster, and safety information.

By 2001, there were 2 stages of entertainment and over 120 booths participating in the event. The committee members have changed over the years, but the event has continued, and become part of the fabric of what makes Vacaville a family oriented community. The focus remains on child and family safety and health.

See more about this wonderful organization at www.VacavilleKidFest.org

See you there!

Relax With an Hot Stone Massage

Feeling a little tense and need to relax or perhaps you just want to reward yourself? Either way a hot stone massage might be just thing for you!

A hot stone massage is similar to a traditional massage excepted heated flat stones are utilized as well. Stone massage is a Native American technique that was revitalized by Mary Nelson of Tucson, Arizona.

Before you arrive for your session, the massage therapist will heat basalt stones to between 120 and 150 degrees in a water bath. Once the session starts, the stones are applied to various points on your body. However, everybody has differing heat tolerances - if the stones are uncomfortably hot for you be sure to speak up! There will not be any rough spots on the stones since they are river rocks that have been rounded and smoothed over time from the flowing water. As the stones cool, they will be replaced with new, warm rocks.

The heat from the stones relaxes your muscle tissue allowing therapist to work the muscles more deeply. Additionally, stones may be placed at points on your body known to facilitate relaxation or improve your energy flow. Such places are your palms and between your toes. The therapist may also hold a stone and massage you with it instead of his or her hands.

People have reported improvement with certain conditions after receiving a stone massage. These conditions include:

back pain and aches

poor circulation

stress and anxiety

insomnia

depression

muscular pains

Additionally, there is therapeutic value in working with hot and cold simultaneously. Your therapist may elect to also use cool marble stones particularly if you have inflammation in joints or muscles. Unless you have experienced the therapeutic results of this type of massage treatment, you can't fully appreciate the significant differences realized through a hot stone massage over traditional kneading massage techniques.

However, hot stones massages are not for everyone. You should steer clear if you have any infectious skin diseases or a rash or if you have recently had surgery. The massage can dislodge blood clots so check with your doctor if you have had surgery or are pregnant before getting a stone massage.

To maximize the relaxation during your massage, don't eat a heavy meal close to your appointment and give yourself plenty of time to arrive in a timely fashion. Rushing to a massage appointment does not put you in the best mindset to enjoy the session!

Treat yourself to a hot stone massage today. You won't regret it!

5 Benefits of Massage Therapy

I bet you have always believed that getting a massage is a luxury to be reserved for the rich. As a juggler of the family budget, you are probably very aware of how you spend your money and are very careful with expenditures. Something that feels so good has got to be more pampering than beneficial. Right?
Wrong! The health benefits of massage are many. Let me share with you a few that I have experienced.
Health Benefits of Massage #1:
Massage helps to restore muscles to their correct position. When I first started getting a regular massage about a year ago, my masseuse told me that I was starting to get a dowager's hump. As she worked with me monthly, the hump became less and less. Now it is totally gone.
Health Benefits of Massage #2:
Massage helps to relax and soften injured, tired, and overused muscles. I do a lot of my work at the computer, and though I try to take regular breaks to move around, I still get a lot of tension in my neck and shoulders from the computer-working mode. My monthly massages have helped to relax those tight muscles.
Health Benefits of Massage #3:
Massage helps to increase joint flexibility. I started out with a stiff shoulder with very minimal range of motion. Now I have regained full range and have no pain in that shoulder either. Of course, other things have helped like exercise, chiropractor visits, and a natural glucosamine supplement, but I know the massage helped too.
Health Benefits of Massage #4:
Massage helps to pump oxygen and nutrients into tissues and vital organs, improving circulation.
Health Benefits of Massage #5:
Massage helps to release endorphins, lessening depression and anxiety. It is soothing and relaxing. Of course, this is the benefit we always think of - it just feels good!
Actually, there are many more health benefits of massage - these are just a small sampling.
What you Should Do Next:
1. Ask yourself if this is a health step you should invest in for the care of your body.
2. If so, commit to putting a monthly massage into your health program and budget.
3. Massage therapists vary with their techniques and strengths. Don't feel you have to go with the first one you use. Try several different ones so you can evaluate well and choose who you fit best with their style and personality for establishing a long-term relationship.
4. Communicate well with your masseuse/masseur. They can't know what you like or don't like unless you tell them.
5. Drink a lot of water after your massage to rehydrate your body.
6. Plan your day to be able to relax after your massage to continue to benefit.
That's it. Enjoy your progression along the road to optimum health. After all, you only have one body to live in on this earth. Take care of it.

Benefits Of Seeing A Massage Therapist

Massage therapy is a practice that is dedicated to using touch to manipulate the muscles and soft tissues in the body. Massage therapy has been around for hundreds of years, and it has been noted for its many health benefits. Below are some of the benefits that can be reaped from seeing a massage therapist:

Alleviate Stress

Nearly half of working adults in America have reported that they feel stressed out on a regular basis. Stress is an inevitable part of being an adult, but it is very important for one to learn how to manage it. People who get massages on a regular basis will be able to manage their stress better. Massages have been shown to stimulate the release of endorphins. Endorphins help alleviate stress and promote relaxation.

Additionally, a massage can help reduce the amount of cortisol in the body. Cortisol is known as the stress-hormone. There have been several studies done where people's cortisol levels were measured before and after getting a massage. The results of the studies showed that the subjects' cortisol levels were significantly lower after getting a massage.

Lower Blood Pressure

High blood pressure is a problem that affects one in three adults in America. High blood pressure can lead to heart attacks, strokes and diabetes if it is left untreated. There have been studies done to show that a massage can help lower blood pressure.

One of the studies was performed by a team of researchers at the University of Florida. Half of the participants were given 10 massages over the course of three weeks. The remaining participants were given a placebo. The results of the study showed that the participants that were given a massage had a significant improvement in their blood pressure. There were no significant changes observed in the control group.

Researchers believe that a massage can help lower blood pressure by stimulating the vagus nerve. The vagus nerve helps regulate a number of important functions in the body, including blood pressure.

Boost the immune system

Cortisol destroys immunity cells, which makes a person more prone to developing illnesses. Because a massage helps reduce the amount of cortisol in the body, it can also boost the immune system.

People should definitely consider getting a professional massage on a regular basis. Massages have been shown to alleviate stress and lower blood pressure. They can also help prevent illness by boosting the immune system.

Why Choose A Couple's Massage?

Couple's massage has made a huge gain in popularity over the last few years. This massage, which involves a couple having massage therapy side by side, has a number of benefits for everyone involved. If you have ever considered getting a massage with a friend or your significant other, couple's massage might be for you, for these reasons.

One of the main reasons that couples get massages together is that it gives them the opportunity to spend relaxing, quality time together. In this busy world, it is all to easy to be distracted by day to day life. Time spent together is often little more than a quick dinner or a few hours in front of the television. Getting a massage together gives you the chance to relax together and enjoy a shared experience without the distraction of the television.

It is a fact of the massage business that different therapists take a different amount of time to work on different patients. Many couples that go for regular massages together find that they are finished at different times and one person has to wait for the other. If you want to avoid the frustration of having to wait for each other, couple's massage is a great choice, because the massage always ends for both of you at the same time.

If being alone in a room while a stranger massages you, you are not alone. Many people find the activity to be far too intimate to do without their partner. When you do a couple's massage, however, you will never be alone. It becomes a couple's activity and any intimacy is transferred to the shared experience between the two of you. The massage therapist is only an enabler of the experience.

If you have trouble finding new and interesting activities for date night, couple's massage is a great idea. It is intimate, yet fun, and both of you will come out of the experience feeling relaxed, refreshed and renewed. Is there a better way to feel after a date?

Couple's massage does not have to be a romantic activity. In fact, many a girls' night has started with a group or couple's massage. It is a particularly great way to introduce a reluctant friend to your favorite type of massage therapy. With you there, he or she may be far more likely to give this type of therapy a try.

There are many reasons to give couple's massage a try. Whether you are trying to add a new spark to a familiar relationship, you want to spend some quality time with your significant other, or you simply have a friend who could benefit from a group nudge in the right direction, couple's massage can be a very rewarding experience.

Soothing and Relaxing Back Facials For A Flawless and Smooth Back

Back facials that use a customized back hydradermie improve both the appearance and tone of the skin and they also relax and calm the muscles. A healthy and glowing back is always a sight for sore eyes and this deep cleansing and de-stressing treatment that is specifically designed for the back and shoulder area includes exfoliation, extractions, and customized mask application. This skin treatment which is formulated specifically for the back utilizes many of the techniques used in skin treatments for the face, and they are supposed to clarify and soften the skin of the back while providing a deep moisturizing treatment which will leave the client with a healthy, glowing back.

Back facials for both men and women are available, in a wide range of formulations which target specific skin types or issues such as clogged pores and acne on the back. Back scrubbing shower tools and brushes that enable most people to keep their backs clean can also be used to reduce clogged pores and keep other skin problems at bay. However, sometimes, people have trouble maintaining and following a skin care regimen for their backs as this area is among those areas of the body that are notoriously hard to reach. Moisturizing the back or treating dry skin as well as other irritating and sometimes unsightly conditions becomes difficult and that is the main reason why a back facial can actually be quite beneficial, especially for those who wear low-back clothing or swimsuits.

Usually, these facials begin with a deep steaming that is designed to open the pores and soften the skin. A beautician or an aesthetician may also use other substances such as an exfoliating scrub to remove dead skin from the back or also carry out extractions on clogged pores. After the process of steaming and exfoliation using either a loofah or an exfoliating mitt, the back is covered in a rich moisturizing mask and in some spas, this is followed by a massage to release stress and tension in the back and improve circulation. Glycolic peels and dermabrasion for the back are the other skin treatments that are offered for the back depending on the skin type as well as other skin issues.

Beauticians at day spas and other health and wellness centers can always be consulted for the most suitable and recommended treatments on a case by case basis. They are also aware of the ingredients that are used in back facial treatments in case people are allergic to any specific substances that are used during the skincare treatment process. Pregnant women must always avoid back facials as it requires them lie on their stomach and this puts pressure on the fetus. The entire upper and lower back region needs to be exposed on the treatment or massage table.

The duration of a facial varies depending on the spa, their treatment method, and the methods and technique that they offer as a part of the package that may also include deep pore cleansing and extra softening. The treatment is ideal for those who have acne on the back and both men and women can opt for this kind of facial that is personalized according to their skin type. Sometimes, clay masking and pore-refining masking are used for detoxification and to remove dead skin cells.

Facts About Hot Stone Massages

A classic massage treatment that incorporates heated stones is called Hot Stone Massage. Not just any ordinary stones are used in this massage but stones that effectively absorb and retain heat like basalt stones (volcanic black rocks). The stones must also be smooth and has no rough edge.

Before your appointment in the day spa, the stones are first sanitized by the therapist who then heats them in water with temperature of 120 to 150 degrees. The client's body is first applied with oil so that the stone may glide smoothly on the skin. The heated stones may be placed on particular body parts such as spine, palm of hands, belly and between the toes to allow energy flow in the body. The therapist may also use the stone instead of his or her hands in massaging the body. Cold stones are used instead of hot stones when the muscles are inflamed or injured.

The stones used in this massage treatment are of diverse sizes and shapes. In case you feel the stones are excessively hot, then tell your therapist immediately. Since the heat of the stones is mainly accountable for relaxing and easing out the strained muscles, the therapist need not exert too much pressure in massaging.

In general, hot stone massage benefits the body by promoting absolute relaxation of tissues and muscles, easing stress in the body, releasing toxins from the body, relieving pain and aches, enhancing circulatory functions and calming the mind. Hot Stone Massage also assists in treating arthritis, anxiety, insomnia and depression.

In order to have the most effective hot stone massage treatment, make sure that you do not take a heavy meal prior to your session. Get to the spa at a much earlier time so your body will be able to relax even before the massage session. If there is enough time, stay at the sauna, hot tub or steam bath facility of the day spa. Massage treatments are most often performed in the nude but the body is draped during the entire session. If you are not comfortable wearing nothing, inform the therapist and choose clothing you are comfortable wearing but will not obstruct the execution of the massage.

Let your body relax further by doing deep regular breaths. Even when a sensitive area is touched, remember not to hold your breath as this may tighten up the muscles which is counterproductive in the massage treatment. Should you notice anything improper during the massage, you can tell the therapist to stop.

The heat from the stones has a sedative effect on the body's nervous system so it will be likely that you will feel lightheaded or dizzy after the session. If this happens, slowly get off the table and drink extra amount of liquids, water preferably.

Keep in mind that any massage treatment including hot stone massage will greatly benefit the body in due course. Massage has cumulative healing effects, thus the frequent you receive massage treatment, the better and the quicker your body will respond to the therapy.

Day Spa Upgrades You Shouldn't Be Without

Taking a trip to a day spa is often very enjoyable. This facility is filled with numerous relaxing activities. Along with the standard offerings, there are extras that can be added to the experience which makes the day even better. Here are a few day spa upgrades that a person should not be without.

Massage is the most popular activity at any spa. It is a time to relax and let go. To take it to another level, a person can add hot stones to the massage. This type of massage will erase tension, ease stiff muscles, and heighten metabolism and blood circulation. Water heated stones are applied to the body and reach deep into muscles. Mixing hot stones into a full body massage will give a healing experience. Heated stones open blood vessels and encourage better blood flow all over the body. They also are calming and can get rid of chronic pain. The heat from the stones penetrate deep inside muscles making them less tense and simpler to manipulate.

Aroma therapy is another wonderful thing to add to a massage. It is a fact that the brain can be influenced by smells that are present in the air. This addition to a massage incorporates fragrant oil extracts from flowers, fruits, and herbs to increase the benefits of massage. Pleasant aromas can ease aches and pains by promoting circulation. It encourages healing of tissues and lowers pain. It also lowers anxiety. This is perfect for people who are irritable, nervous, or are full of apprehension. Aroma therapy calms the system and promotes tranquility. Scents like lavender, eucalyptus, and mint will ease tension and create a peaceful environment.

Deep muscle therapy is another massage upgrade that has many benefits. It consists of alternating cold and heat therapy throughout a massage on a particular area of the body. When performed on the legs or feet, it can relieve pain from knee and foot problems. When done in the back or neck, it can relieve overuse from too much physical activity or chronic injury. When performed in the arms or hands, it can take pain away from joints in the shoulder, tennis elbow, or carpal tunnel syndrome. It is ideal for athletes or other people who are recovering from injury.

Visiting a day spa can be a rejuvenating and relaxing experience, especially when a person is filled with stress. To get the most from the visit, a person could add a few upgrades to the massage treatment. Hot stones, aroma therapy, and deep muscle therapy are a few extras that will make a big difference and bring increased benefits from a day spa massage.

Why Get a Spa Massage?

In this day and age when there is so much more potential stress in our lives we need to find more ways to relax. That does not mean that all of us are living with an overly stressful job or relationship. But it does mean we need to make sure that with all the things that we must do in our lives we do not forget the opportunity to do something special for ourselves to help us relax. There are many options on how to do this. One is to get a spa massage. This method of relaxation can make you feel stripped of your troubles, relaxed and free of tension.

The spa massage actually accomplishes more that simply easing the tension in tired muscles; though it certainly does accomplish that as well. It will improve the circulation of your blood and diminish any muscle aches you may be suffering from. This in turn will help you sleep better and a better night's sleep means a better day ahead. Depending on the spa you choose for your massage they may use essential oils to help relax you. Essential oils, the basis of aromatherapy, help to further relax a person as well as help to diminish aches and pains. Or they might have relaxing music playing in the background during your massage. All this is designed to improve the way you feel and alleviate the tension.

When you go to the spa for a massage you will be surprised that it will not be necessarily just a back rub that you will receive. The masseur will work hard to iron out your tension by rubbing deep into the tissue to get rid of aches, pains, and stress. This means massaging the feet, back, and face as well. The spa massage is becoming ever increasingly popular for those who need to have a place to go to get rid of their stress. This means that when they do go home they are relaxed and reenergized; ready to deal with their partner and children with a renewed sense of wellbeing and patience.

Benefits of A Hot Stone Massage

There are key points on the human body where a massage therapist can place smooth basalt or hardened lava stones to help the body relax and release tension or pain. These rocks have usually been smoothed by water and treated with heat before being placed on the body. They can bring great relief to rigid muscles plagued by continuous dull pain and help to reduce stress and anxiety. As a form of alternative medicine, hot stone treatments are becoming the effective holistic treatment of choice for many devotees to help the body function better.

Muscle Relaxation
The main benefit of using hot stones to relax muscles is that it enables a therapist to more easily perform deep tissue massage. This targets the connective tissue in the body and gets rid of chronic knots that tend to form in the shoulders and back.

Stones are placed on a patient's back, between the toes, or at places on the body that are thought to be energy centers. If the therapist uses massage oils, the heat from the smooth rocks is pushed over muscles to warm them and start the relaxation process. Then the therapist uses his hands to massage the back.

Finally, the heated stones are placed on the back again and left in place for a while. Sometimes, stones are also placed in the palms to relax muscles. If any muscles are inflamed or injured, a therapist may also alternate hot stones with cold stones.

Pain Relief
For many centuries, healers have used hot stones to relieve pain. Health experts believe the stones work well with managing pain because they help the recipient remain calm and and let go of stress. A low-stress state makes it easier to release pain. Additionally, the heat from the stones gives an intensity not present with other kinds of therapy like Swedish massage.

Improved Circulation
Heat also acts as a trigger for opening the blood vessels and improving circulation. A body with good circulation has blood vessels that carry more oxygen to the muscles, helping them to relax. Most people do not realized how constantly tense muscles are tied to chronic fatigue or that a tired body is usually one that has poor circulation. Deep massaging brings more vitality to tissues in the body and keeps blood flowing evenly.

Mental Benefits
Regular stress triggers a set of chemical reactions in the body. Under stress, the body releases two hormones: adrenaline and cortisol. The heartbeat races, blood pressure rises, breathing elevates and the entire body can tend to tense. When a hot stone massage places the body in a relaxed state, all of these chemical responses stop. The mind is in a calmer place. Other triggers a therapist may use enhance this calming effect are soothing music or calming soundscapes like softly chirping birds or running water.

Why Men Should Enjoy a Trip to a Day Spa

Undoubtedly, women are the leaders when it comes to visiting day spas, but many men still need a bit of coaxing when it comes to enjoying a visit or experimenting with the many day spa treatments currently on offer. However, there is a growing trend in men who are finding the value from enjoying treatments which are available from visiting a day spa, as many of the treatments offer ways to allow the body to relax and unwind from the pressures and stresses of daily life.

Here we look at some of the popular reasons why men should enjoy a trip to a day spa.

First and foremost, most men and women enjoy a visit to a spa as a way to relax or unwind, with the aim to feel rejuvenated or revitalised. The level of rejuvenation might depend on what courses of treatments were used, how long the treatment period lasted for and whether the man enjoyed a range of treatments to aid relaxation.

Visiting a day spa for muscle massage or one of the hot and cold treatments could be an additional way to aid recovery from a muscle injury, perhaps from sport or an accident; visiting a spa is not all about pampering.

For many people, including health-conscious men, a visit to a spa can be about overall well-being, care for the mind, body and soul. Many spa treatments are tailored to suit each individual's needs and most modern-day spas now offer 'male specific' treatments.

These treatments can include grooming, facials, scalp treatments, exfoliation, muscle relief massage, detox and body therapy treatments, to name just a few.

Another good way to try out spa treatments is to take along a partner, a loved one or even a friend. If you are feeling a bit self-conscious as a man about going to a spa to enjoy any of the treatments, this could help alleviate any anxiety and help you overcome any preconceptions or embarrassment you might be feeling, plus make for a fun day out together.

Lastly, a good reason why men should consider a trip to a day spa is that it would show your partner or wife you care about your body and your well-being. It could also be a great excuse for you and your partner to share the relaxing experience together, and a great way to treat a loved one as a gift or present for a special occasion, or even an anniversary. So just relax and enjoy!

Day Spa Gift Certificates Make Great Gifts

Are you looking for the perfect gift for someone you love? Are they stressed out? Have you ever thought about a day spa gift certificate? These certificates can make great gifts and the reason I like them better than giving someone money or a Visa gift card is that it forces them to use it at that one location.

How many times were you given a Visa gift card for your birthday and ended up putting gas in your car or buying groceries? I've done this more times than I care to admit so when I received a gift certificate for a few spa treatments that I couldn't use anywhere else I was thrilled.

The spa certificates can either be for a certain dollar amount or they can be for specific services. I like them either way. Facials and massages are the most popular spa treatments. They are such great ways to pamper yourself.

Pedicures and manicures are also quite popular and less expensive than a massage or facial.

The benefits of facials are enormous. Facials help to open your pores. Getting a good scrubbing on your face also does wonders for your complexion. The benefits of massage are great too. If you know someone that has been stressed out lately buy them the certificate especially for the massage. There is nothing better than lying in a room getting all the tension worked out of your neck and back. I always feel like a new person and have a renewed sense of energy after a good massage. Not only are they relaxing they also help you to distress.

Manicures and pedicures can be done at any nail shop but at a day spa they do more! They will massage your feet and hands and will let your feet soak for up to an hour in hot soothing water! They also use stones to slough the dry skin off your feet which feels really nice. The next time that you are looking for that perfect gift for either a man or a woman think day spa and pick up a gift certificate. The person on the receiving end will love you for it!
