A Few Interesting Facts on Hot Stone Massage Therapy

A hot stone massage is a therapy that has numerous benefits. It is a type of massage that uses a heated massage rock and a Swedish massage to heal and relax the body. Many people avail of this massage because of its many therapeutic effects. It is not only a form of relaxation but also an effective solution to aches and pains of the body. Here are some beneficial effects of this type of massage other than calming the body.

o It puts the mind in a meditative state and therefore is good for people experiencing insomnia and difficulty of sleep because of stress.
o It releases tension on the muscles. It is very good for muscles that are injured, weak and tight.
o It enhances the lymphatic system decreasing the body's susceptibility to infection.
o It has a consoling and soothing effect and has been proven to treat depression.
o It is considered as one form of pain management and recommended for people with back pains and arthritis.

People these days are so prone to stress that there is no doubt physical and mental fatigue will eventually set in. In order to relieve some of the tension from the body, you often find other ways on how to feel relaxed and a hot stone massage therapy is one of the popular choices. It is the perfect way of alleviating pain and promoting overall health of an individual.

You already know the beneficial effects it provides but sometimes you ask yourself on how many times is it really ideal to get a hot stone massage. There really is no actual limitation on how many times you should have a stone massage therapy but the average occurrence to a massage client is approximately once a month. But this number is really dependent on the person and his lifestyle. For instance, one person may engage in a job that requires him to seat on a chair for more than 8 hours. This type of job will usually bear a strain on the muscles and it is recommended to take the massage twice a month.

A two hour treatment of a hot stone massage therapy will take you in a deeper sense of relaxation. The tension and muscle spasms in your body will simply melt away as the massage rock and Swedish massage create the perfect massage atmosphere. The heat and the massage will gradually open up the energy centers of the body and will leave you feeling rejuvenated in no time.

Getting a hot stone massage therapy is good for the body. It may be a little more expensive than a regular massage but the effects can be remarkable. You cannot reverse the aging process of the body but at least you can slow it down with the proper diet, regular exercise and a massage once in awhile. So invest in a hot stone massage to boost your energy levels and live a healthier happier lifestyle.

First Massage? What to Expect

What should I expect for my first appointment?
The therapist will arrive a few minutes prior to the appointment time to ensure proper set up. You will be asked to fill out a brief health history form. The therapist will then ask general questions to establish what areas you would like to be worked on or avoided, and discuss any skin conditions/health concerns that may need to be addressed. The therapist will leave the room allowing you time to undress to your level of comfort and lay on the table.

What is Swedish massage?
Swedish Massage is a very relaxing style of bodywork. It combines an array of strokes such as rolling, gliding, kneading, and percussion to help the body improve ease tension and improve circulation and blood flow.

What is Deep Tissue massage? Will it hurt?
Deep tissue aims to relieve tension in the deeper layers of tissue in the body. It is a highly effective method for releasing chronic stress areas and "knots" due to misalignment, repetitive motions, and past lingering injuries. Contrary to popular belief, Deep Tissue does not necessarily mean you'll have to endure sharp elbows and painful manipulation. Rather, the licensed massage therapist will apply pressure and a variety of techniques to achieve the desired outcome, checking in with the client to ensure your total comfort.

What should I wear?
Undress to your level of comfort. For a full body massage, most people undress to their underwear. It is recommended for women to remove their bra to keep it out of contact with lotions, oils and creams. You will remain covered with a sheet and blanket at all times; only the area being worked on will be uncovered. *Thai massage is recommended for clients who would prefer to remain fully clothed.*

What do I do during the massage session?
It is your massage, and whatever feels natural to you is the best way to relax. Many people close their eyes and relax, while others talk; it is up to you. Do not hesitate to ask questions at any time, especially if feeling light-headed of nauseous.

Will the lotion make me break out?
All lubricants (oils, lotions and creams) are hyopallergenic. If you are sensitive to certain types of oils, lotions or aromatherapy, please let the therapist know.

How often should I get a massage?
Treatment frequency varies by client. For those seeking relaxation, a 60-minute massage every 3 weeks is beneficial. For those with acute injuries, shorter, more frequent sessions are recommended, such as 30-minutes twice a week. To treat chronic conditions, initial 60-minute weekly sessions are suggested for 3-4 weeks, and then taper down to biweekly for maintenance.

The Many Effects Of Body Wraps

Body wraps are usually consisted of seaweed, mud, herbs and even chocolate and are all very high in minerals and vitamins. Body wraps are therapeutic to a customer's skin and body because they help vasodilation and penetrate the ingredients into the skin. Many of them offer anti-aging affects, while others cleanse the skin from impurities. However, all body wraps have one thing in common: they offer relaxation to any customer receiving them.

Seaweed body wraps reduces a customer's water weight while tightening the skin. Seaweed is put all over the body and detoxifies the skin by stimulating the sweat glands and creating soft and subtle skin after the treatment.

A mud wrap is soothing to the skin and may even help certain skin irritations. It detoxifies, cleanses and even firms the entire body's skin, while unclogging the pores. It soothes and calms the customer's skin and causing them to feel relaxed and at ease.

Herb wraps are herbs blended in oil and mixed in with very hot water. Linen sheets are dipped into the mixture and then wrapped all over the customer's body, which cleanses and nourishes the body.

Chocolate is a little more modern but very a popular wrap among customers who are looking for anti-aging results. Chocolate softens and tones the skin, while releasing your endorphins so that the customer feels happy and relaxed. The cocoa in the chocolate contains glycerides that moisturizes the skin and actually plumps out the wrinkles in a person's skin.

There are many different body wraps a spa can use. A spa therapist should always have a consultation with the client to determine which wrap would be the most beneficial for their needs. Many clients may not know all the benefits for each type of body wrap so it is up to the spa therapist to inform them so that they can get the results they are looking for.

3 Brilliant Benefits of Massage Therapy

Mellow your muscles

One of the primary benefits of massage is the effect it can have on your muscles. Muscular tissues get worked hard on a daily basis, even if you don't notice it. Through constant contraction and expansion, muscles can quickly become tired, sore, or tense. Extended use can leave your muscles in a constant state of contraction, an outcome that can also be caused through stress. Tight and overworked muscles can affect your whole body, especially your posture. The same applies for underworked muscles too. Underworked muscles can lose their tone and definition, sometimes leading to physical problems. Inactive muscles can cause just as many problems as overworked muscles.

Massage therapy can be great at combatting muscle fatigue and the detrimental effects of tight, overworked muscles or poorly defined, inactive muscles. Stretching and relaxing muscles through massaging can increase their flexibility, reduce cramping, dispose of stored waste products and toxins, and improve your muscle tone.

Improve your posture

Poor posture is one of the main causes of back and neck problems. It can also cause problems in other areas of the body, such as reducing the efficiency of the respiratory system. Maintaining a good posture is essential to maintaining a healthy functioning body. Massage therapy can be a perfect aid to improve posture. As it makes the muscles much more flexible, you'll find that massaging will vastly improve your range of movement. There is a substance called synovial fluid in your joints. This fluid can become quite thick through inactivity of muscles. Massages can help the flow of synovial fluid through your joints, loosening you up and reducing the pain caused.

Boost your cardio

Cardio-vascular performance and stamina is directly related to the way blood flows through your body. Poor blood flow can lead to reduced functioning of your muscles and joints, as well as reduce the amount of oxygen reaching all areas of your body, which provides essential energy for your cells to function efficiently. Your heart has to work hard to consistently pump blood through your body, resulting in high blood pressure for those with poor cardio. Massage therapy often focuses on massaging blood towards your heart, reducing the stress placed on your essential organ and lowering your blood pressure producing healthy results. Regular massages can help you consistently maintain a lower blood pressure by loosening your joints and muscles. This ensures that your heart doesn't have to work so hard to get that vital blood to your extremities.

Spa Day

Do you have a crazy work schedule and just need a day to just relax? Consider going to a day spa for hours of pampering and complete relaxation. There are many different options for you at a day spa.

Facials come in a variety of different styles and purposes. They all come with a head and neck massage but they differ in herbs and chemicals that help your face to clear up from a break out, tighten your skin, reduce fine lines and wrinkles, and hydrate your face so it looks younger fresher and will glow. It usually lasts between a half hour and an hour and they will give you the most tender care so you can relax and feel rejuvenated upon leaving.

Having a massage at a day spa is one of the most common and popular things to get. Did you know that having a massage regularly can reduce your stress level? It can also allow you lower rates at your insurance company because it can improve your health conditions. It can help to align your bones and take the toxins and knots out of your back so you will be in a fresh optimal state of health and feel great too. Massages are extremely relaxing and enjoyable too. The nice herbal scented oils and soothing spa music accompanying the actual massage hour (or two) helps you to reach a state of calm.

Body wraps and baths are popular too. You can have your body wrapped in hydrating cloths or take a mud bath which will extract toxins and impurities out of your skin leaving it feeling refreshed and exfoliated. You will be soft and supple after you have quenched your skin with an intense treatment which in the process will help you to calm your nerves and make your stress level drop.

It is important when you have a day at the spa to hydrate your body with water so the toxins from the treatments can be flushed out. Otherwise you could get a headache and it could be counterproductive.

You will be looking new and rejuvenated all over your body by being replenished with all the vitamins and nutrients your skin needs to feel fresh and new.

A day at the spa can raise your confidence level and create a peace within yourself from dropping your stress level and enhancing your physical state. Taking care of your body is important. Part of that is being proactive about cleaning and servicing your body with a treat to the spa for promoting good health and well-being.

Local Worthy Event: The Vacaville Kid Fest is Sat Oct 6th in Downtown Vacaville at Andrews Park. FUN!

Vacaville Kid Fest was started in 1999, when an idea was born to create a "Children's Festival", a place where families could come and have a day of activities with their children at very little or no cost, and also have the opportunity to learn about many of the services and resources that were available to children and families. We adopted the theme "For the Child in all of us".

A group of City of Vacaville representatives, ranging from business owners and managers, nonprofit groups and media people were approached with the idea and met it with enthusiasm. And thus, Kid Fest was born.

The first Kid Fest Core Committee consisted of Shauna Manina, Meaghan O'Neill from Vacaville Police Dept., Linnea Dischinger from Vacaville Fire Dept., Todd Grames and Suzanne Green from Community Services Dept., and Reggie Hubbard from Housing & Redevelopment Dept. Other business people from The Reporter, Downtown Vacaville Business Improvement District, and others all committed to the vision of a day of low cost or no cost activities, free resources, and fun.

Our first event in 1999 had 1 stage and 40 booths, with everything from food, crafters and merchandise vendors, a wide range of social service and community nonprofit groups, free children's games and entertainment, bounce houses, and a very strong focus on child safety and health. From the beginning, a large component of the event has been the presence of Vacaville Fire and Police Depts., with their equipment displays, children's fire muster, and safety information.

By 2001, there were 2 stages of entertainment and over 120 booths participating in the event. The committee members have changed over the years, but the event has continued, and become part of the fabric of what makes Vacaville a family oriented community. The focus remains on child and family safety and health.

See you there!

Relax With an Hot Stone Massage

Feeling a little tense and need to relax or perhaps you just want to reward yourself? Either way a hot stone massage might be just thing for you!

A hot stone massage is similar to a traditional massage excepted heated flat stones are utilized as well. Stone massage is a Native American technique that was revitalized by Mary Nelson of Tucson, Arizona.

Before you arrive for your session, the massage therapist will heat basalt stones to between 120 and 150 degrees in a water bath. Once the session starts, the stones are applied to various points on your body. However, everybody has differing heat tolerances - if the stones are uncomfortably hot for you be sure to speak up! There will not be any rough spots on the stones since they are river rocks that have been rounded and smoothed over time from the flowing water. As the stones cool, they will be replaced with new, warm rocks.

The heat from the stones relaxes your muscle tissue allowing therapist to work the muscles more deeply. Additionally, stones may be placed at points on your body known to facilitate relaxation or improve your energy flow. Such places are your palms and between your toes. The therapist may also hold a stone and massage you with it instead of his or her hands.

People have reported improvement with certain conditions after receiving a stone massage. These conditions include:

back pain and aches

poor circulation

stress and anxiety

insomnia

depression

muscular pains

Additionally, there is therapeutic value in working with hot and cold simultaneously. Your therapist may elect to also use cool marble stones particularly if you have inflammation in joints or muscles. Unless you have experienced the therapeutic results of this type of massage treatment, you can't fully appreciate the significant differences realized through a hot stone massage over traditional kneading massage techniques.

However, hot stones massages are not for everyone. You should steer clear if you have any infectious skin diseases or a rash or if you have recently had surgery. The massage can dislodge blood clots so check with your doctor if you have had surgery or are pregnant before getting a stone massage.

To maximize the relaxation during your massage, don't eat a heavy meal close to your appointment and give yourself plenty of time to arrive in a timely fashion. Rushing to a massage appointment does not put you in the best mindset to enjoy the session!

Treat yourself to a hot stone massage today. You won't regret it!
