The Various Benefits of Spa Facials

Going for Spa facials can be a great experience that would help revitalize your skin while you soak in the comfort of a great spa experience. There is a variety of skin problems that these facials address. Even if there were no specific problems in your skin, would still help in making your skin look rejuvenated and beaming with youth and vigor. But not all people have flawless skin with no problems whatsoever. Some of the normal problems that these facials treat are acne, skin dryness, inflammation of pores and other regular skin ailments. Most of these Spa facials are recommended equally for women as well as for men. Sometimes teenagers that have skin problems can also benefit a lot from these Spa facials.

Most of us use soap and water to wash our face. However, soap alone is not enough to adequately cleanse the pores of our skin. Sometimes, dirt, grim and oil can accumulate deep inside and clog the pores of the skin-giving rise to a variety of skin conditions that need to be treated. Some of the damage done to the skin from exposure to the sun and the weather can also not be adequately undone using just soap and water. What is required is good Spa facials in order to effectively rectify and control the damage done to the skin.

Spa facials begin with the assessment of your skin type and the problem if any that your skin is undergoing at the moment. This initial procedure then helps the beautician decide on the treatment required for your particular skin type and skin condition. The amount of oil secreted by your skin, the size of the pores on your skin, the texture of your skin surface and the tone of your skin are determined in order to decide on the kind of Spa facials for the course of treatment.

The actual Spa facials procedure basically involves deep cleansing of the pores of the skin in order to unclog the pores as well as to exfoliate the dead cells on the top most layer of the skin. This procedure alone can greatly improve the condition of the skin. The beautician would then add moisturizing agents to make your skin soft and supple, which would also retard the aging process. A moisturized skin helps prevent the formation of wrinkles which is one of the most visible signs of aging. Therefore Spa facials not only rectify the skin conditions that you suffer from, but also enhance the natural beauty of the skin and at the same time use anti-aging processes to help the skin fight the aging process effectively.

Deep Tissue Massage Benefits

Massages help our bodies, but what exactly are the benefits of it? There are several.

Deep Tissue Massage focuses on releasing restrictions in the deeper layers of the muscles, tendons, and ligaments. It is effective in releasing deeply held tension, relaxing and smoothing muscles, and removing toxins.

Some Massage Benefits are:

* Improves posture and mobility.
* Helps to reduce tension and the automatic reflexes to stress.
* Resolves many chronic pain patterns by releasing deeply held emotions that cause tension.
* Eliminates the blocks that cause muscle tightness.
* Increases circulation of blood, lymph, cerebro-spinal and interstitial fluids.
* Helps improve the functioning of the internal organs and any associated symptoms/diseases.

Deep tissue massages work effectively on the skeletal structure that lies deep within the human body. It can break down scar tissue and crystallization, release toxins, allow oxygen and blood to circulate properly, and loosen muscles.

Many people get massages to try and treat crippling diseases, muscle, ligament, and tissue injuries. When receiving a Deep Tissue Massage, if done properly, any pain you have felt should be gone within a day or two.

Although a massage can be very intense, it does not require great strength nor does it have to be painful.

To get the full benefits of a deep tissue massage you need to drink plenty of water and relax completely. It is possible that if you do not drink enough water, you could have a reaction to the chemicals in the oil the massage therapist used to relax your muscles and eliminate the pain.

Deep Tissue Massage For Pain Relief

Deep tissue massage is a massage therapy technique wherein the inner muscle layers and the connective tissues are re-aligned. This type of therapy is highly beneficial for the contracted tissue muscles around the neck, lower back and shoulders. It heals stiff neck and lower back rigidity.

The massage strokes that are applied by the deep tissue massage therapists are similar to the traditional massage therapy. The only difference lies in the hand movement which is slower while the intensity of pressure is focused more on the pain stricken and tensed muscles. This particular massage therapy helps to break and eliminate the scar tissues. It concentrates on specific areas where the slower strokes and the deep direct pressure help in releasing the chronic muscle tension.

Normally a person suffering from chronic muscular tension and injury feels the pain emanating from adhesions which are bands of painful tight muscles and tendons. It is generally believed that adhesions block circulation, cause pain and inflammation while it also restricts a person's mobility. Deep tissue massage is recommended as the therapist physically kneads the adhesions and alleviates pain while helping to restore normal movement. To reach this objective, the deep tissue massage therapists often apply intense pressure or friction across the grain of the muscle. At times during the course of the massage, people may feel pain and associated discomfort. It is advisable in such cases to inform the massage therapist about the pain and soreness if it is beyond the comfort range.

Although slight stiffness or pain can be experienced after the deep tissue massage, the discomfort level normally subsides within a day or so. Often the massage therapist applies ice on the area which has been massaged. Deep tissue massage is also used for relaxation. The therapy is beneficial for persons recovering from injuries especially those which are sports generated, osteoarthritis, muscle spasms and postural problems. People suffering from osteoarthritis opt for this therapy as it is highly effective and often they notice remarkable improvement in their mobility immediately after the massage.

During deep tissue massage, the therapists use finger tips, knuckles, hand, elbows as well as the forearms. In the course of massaging, the therapist concentrates on muscles located below the top muscle layer as this is highly effective for people suffering from consistent pain. It is advisable to consume plenty of water once the massage is over to flush out metabolic waste from the tissues. At the start of deep tissue massage the person may want to breathe deeply since this action facilitates the process and relieves the tensed muscles.

Deep tissue massage might not be the best for certain types of people like heart patients or persons under the treatment of chemotherapy. Even for osteoporosis patients, prior consultation with the therapist is advisable. The massage therapist aims at relieving the pain from deeper tissue structures and the treatment can be more uncomfortable than the traditional massage.

However, people have to be realistic when contemplating undergoing this massage therapy. The deep tissue massage might not bring immediate relief from pain though many believe that if the therapist kneads hard on the pressure knots, they would get instant relief. This might not always happen as removing chronic knots and tension built-up over a lifetime is best achieved when the patient goes for an integrated program that includes exercise, improvement of posture, mobility enhancement, other relaxation techniques as well as regular deep tissue massage therapy.

Such duel program is really valuable for re-aligning the body. If the deep tissue massage is executed correctly, their benefits could be experienced within the next few days. As tensed muscles block oxygen and nutrients while building up toxin in the muscle tissues, this form of massage is recommended as it releases the toxin from the muscles as they are loosened up, thereby enabling the blood and oxygen to circulate properly.

The primary objective of deep tissue massage is to relax the muscle fibers and release the deeply held patterns of tension in order to soothe the tendon. The deep tissue massage therapy is corrective as well as therapeutic. The deep finger pressure and slow strokes on the tension ridden spots is a combination of touch, biomechanics and positioning options. The massage technique makes use of knuckles, fist, forearms and elbows to help in releasing pressure and tension from the deeper layers of the body.

The Voice of the Natural World - Bernie Krause

Bernie Krause has been recording wild soundscapes -- the wind in the trees, the chirping of birds, the subtle sounds of insect larvae -- for 45 years. In that time, he has seen many environments radically altered by humans, sometimes even by practices thought to be environmentally safe. A surprising look at what we can learn through nature's symphonies, from the grunting of a sea anemone to the sad calls of a beaver in mourning.

Talk by Bernie Krause.

Hot Stone Massage - Top 9 Things You Need to Know

One of the fastest rising styles of massage is the hot stone massage. If it's your first time to hear about it, you may be wondering what it's all about. It may be hard to imagine how hot stones can be used in a massage. Here are some other things you should know but may not know about hot stone massage.

  1. What is a hot stone massage? Hot stone massage is a variation of the classic massage therapy in which water treated and heated stones mostly basalt stones are placed in key points of the body called energy centers to prepare the body for deep tissue manipulation and promote relaxation.
  2. Why are basalt stones used? Basalt stones which are black volcanic rocks rich in iron have innate ability to absorb and retain heat that can be used to relieve stress and tension in muscles and enhance circulation.
  3. What are the benefits of getting a hot stone massage? The positive effects of a hot stone massage are countless. On the physical aspect of the body, it does wonders in muscle and deep tissue relaxation, relieves tension, stress and pain such as back aches and muscular pain, improves circulation, and releases harmful toxins. Mental benefits on the other hand include calming of the psyche, giving peace of mind, reducing anxiety and depression. It is also used to treat some medical conditions like Arthritis, Fibromyalgia, Insomnia and some circulatory problems.
  4. Who invented hot stone massage? Mary Hannigan, from Tucson, Arizona invented the hot stone massage in 1993. She calls her style the LaStone Therapy. It wasn't long before this massage style proliferated. Now many massage and spa centers offer their own version of the hot stone therapy.
  5. How long is a massage stone session? A session of this type of massage usually takes 60 to 90 minutes long.
  6. Who cannot take a hot stone massage? Most people are free to get their hot stone massage. However, those who have infectious skin disease, rash, open wounds and those who are prone to blood clots are not allowed to have a hot stone massage. Those who just came out of surgery, chemotherapy or radiation are also advised to stay away from getting massages. Meanwhile, if you have a heart disease or if you're pregnant, it's very important to get your doctor's approval before indulging in a massage. For pregnant women, it is a better idea to get a pregnancy massage from a certified massage therapist.
  7. Is it compulsory to tip the massage therapist? Tips are a nice way of saying that you like the massage that you got. In hotels or spas, a customary 15% to 20% tip will be appreciated by the massage therapist. However, if you are in a medical setting like a hospital or clinic, tipping is not the norm. If in doubt, don't be afraid to ask. Aside from tipping, you can also show appreciation by recommending the massage therapist or the spa center to family and friends.
  8. Does a hot stone massage require nudity? Most hot stone massage clients are given massage while nude but if you're not comfortable, you can always stay in your underwear.
  9. How much does a hot stone massage cost? Typically more expensive than Swedish massage, a session of hot stone massages ranges from $50 to $190.

There are plenty of information available about hot stone massage but nothing beats going through it yourself. The best way to get to know this massage is to try it and experience the relaxation and pleasure that no other massage can give.
